Over-expression of CsGSTU promotes tolerance to the herbicide alachlor and resistance to Pseudomonas syringae pv. tabaci in transgenic tobacco

2017

Glutathione transferases (GSTs) mainly catalyze the nucleophilic addition of glutathione to a large variety of hydrophobic molecules participating to the vacuole compartmentalization of many toxic compounds. In this work, the putative tolerance of transgenic tobacco plants over-expressing CsGSTU genes towards the chloroacetanilide herbicide alachlor was investigated. Our results show that the treatment with 0.0075 mg cm-3 of alachlor strongly affects the growth of both wild type and transformed tobacco seedlings with the sole exception of the transgenic lines overexpressing CsGSTU2 isoform that are barely influenced by herbicide treatment. In order to correlate the in planta studies with en…

Analytical strategy photodegradation/chemiluminescence/continuous-flow multicommutation methodology for the determination of the herbicide Propanil

2006

The present paper is dealing with an analytical strategy based on coupling photodegradation, chemiluminescence and multicommutation continuous-flow methodology for the determination of the pesticide Propanil, a common herbicide. The pesticide solution is inserted as small segments sequentially alternated with segments of the solution for adjusting the suitable medium for the photodegradation. Both flow-rates (sample and medium) are adjusted to required time for photodegradation, 2.0 min; and then, the resulting solution is also sequentially inserted as segments alternated with segments of the oxidizing solutions system, 1.00 x 10(-4) mol 1(-1) potassium permanganate in 2.00 mol 1(-1) sulphu…

Assessment of two extraction methods to determine pesticides in soils, sediments and sludges. Application to the Túria River Basin.

2014

Pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) and Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) extraction methods were optimized for the simultaneous determination of 50 pesticides in sediment, soils and sewage sludge. For QuEChERS development, several buffers and dispersive solid-phase extraction clean-up (dSPE) sorbents were tested. In the PLE method, several parameters affecting the extraction efficiency, such as organic solvent, amount of sample, cell size, temperature, pressure, static time, number of cycles and % of flush, as well as sorbent used for the on-line clean up, were also evaluated. PLE and QuEChERS were assessed and compared in obtained recoveries (33-89% versus 25-120%)…

In vivo genotoxicity of selected herbicides in the mouse bone-marrow micronucleus test

1997

The herbicides alachlor, atrazine, terbuthylazine, gluphosinate-ammonium, isoproturon, pendimethaline and trifluralin were tested for genotoxicity in the mouse bone-marrow micronucleus test (MNT). Both atrazine and trifluraline caused a significant increase in the number of micronuclei at doses of 1,400 mg/kg body weight in female mice only. Alachlor, terbuthylazine, gluphosinate-ammonium, isoproturon and pendimethaline did not have any genotoxic effect in the mouse bone-marrow micronucleus test in either female or male animals.

Alachlor and Bentazone Losses from Subsurface Drainage of Two Soils

2004

International audience; Atrazine (6-chloro-N2-ethyl-N4-isopropyl-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diamine) is frequently detected at high concentrations in ground water. Bentazone [3-isopropyl-1H-2,1,3-benzothiadiazin-4(3H)-one 2,2-dioxide] plus alachlor (2-chloro-2',6'-diethyl-N-methoxymethylacetanilide) is a potential herbicide combination used as a substitute for atrazine. Thus, the objective of this study was to assess the environmental risk of this blend. Drainage water contamination by bentazone and alachlor was assessed in silty clay (Vertic Eutrochrept) and silt loam (Aquic Hapludalf) soils under the same management and climatic conditions. Drainage volumes and concentrations of alachlor and bent…
