Wild vertebrate populations all over the globe are in decline, with poaching being the second-most-important cause. The high poaching rate of rhinoceros may drive these species into extinction within the coming decades. Some stakeholders argue to lift the ban on international rhino horn trade to potentially benefit rhino conservation, as current interventions appear to be insufficient. Stability of vacuolar betaxanthin pigments in juices from Moroccan yellow Opuntia ficus indica fruits

Pigment stability of yellow juices prepared from Moroccan cactus pear (Opuntia ficus indica) was determined as a function of temperature and pH. The experiments were carried out at temperatures ranging from 80 to 100 °C with juices at pH 3.5, 5 and 6.5. The degree of pigment retention decreased when the temperature increased. The degradation constant rates were determined for thermal degradation rates of pseudo-first order. The Arrhenius plot obtained for the degradation of betaxanthin from the yellow fruits was not linear. Regardless of the temperature treatment, the lowest degradation was obtained for pH 5. AbstractThis study is about expressing spatial relationships between Figure and Ground in Finnish Sign Language discourse and shows that the variation in this expression is primarily discourse dependent. The main findings are, first, that Ground mainly precedes Figure whether the Figure is new or a known referent within the discourse; the reverse order is possible only when the Figure is known. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Using Finnish Sign Language : Training Counselors in Signed ACT for the Deaf. A Pilot Study

This study evaluated the implementation of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy in Finnish Sign Language in a rehabilitation center for deaf people. Sixteen (16) clients and nine (9) staff members participated in this pilot study. Staff members received a brief training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) including 16 h lectures, 15 h supervision, and studying material. Each staff member treated 1–2 clients during 8–10 sessions. As part of the study, several ACT metaphors and exercises were translated into Finnish Sign Language. AbstractThis paper investigates the interplay of constructed action and the clause in Finnish Sign Language (FinSL). Constructed action is a form of gestural enactment in which the signers use their hands, face and other parts of the body to represent the actions, thoughts or feelings of someone they are referring to in the discourse. Partition of Indicaxanthin in Membrane Biomimetic Systems. A Kinetic and Modeling Approach

The solubilization site of indicaxanthin (Ind) in lipid bilayers was investigated by the kinetics of Ind oxidation by peroxyl radicals in water and in aqueous/L-alpha-dipalmitoyl-phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) vesicles, pH 7.4, and 37.0 and 48.0 degrees C, that is, in a gel-like and a crystal liquidlike bilayer state, respectively. The time-dependent Ind absorbance decay, matched with a successful simulation of the reaction kinetic mechanism by Gepasi software, supported a multistep pathway. Tässä tutkimuksessa tutkittiin millä tavoin freejazz ilmensi afrikanamerikkalaisten nationalistista identiteettiä Yhdysvalloissa 1960-luvulla. Tavoitteena oli selvittää erilaisia afrikanamerikkalaisen kulttuurin kautta rakennetun nationalistisen identiteetin presentaatiotapoja freejazzin kontekstissa.
