Insertion of Magnetic Bimetallic Oxalate Complexes into Layered Double Hydroxides
2006
Bimetallic oxalate complexes have been successfully inserted into layered double hydroxides as ferromagnetic oxalate-bridged oligomers. Different preparation methods afford different sizes and compositions for the oligomers. In all cases, no magnetic ordering has been observed above 2 K.
Morphology, Rheological and Mechanical Properties of Isotropic and Anisotropic PP/rPET/GnP Nanocomposite Samples
2021
The effect of graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) on the morphology, rheological, and mechanical properties of isotropic and anisotropic polypropylene (PP)/recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET)-based nanocomposite are reported. All the samples were prepared by melt mixing. PP/rPET and PP/rPET/GnP isotropic sheets were prepared by compression molding, whereas the anisotropic fibers were spun using a drawing module of a capillary viscometer. The results obtained showed that the viscosity of the blend is reduced by the presence of GnP due to the lubricating effect of the graphene platelets. However, the Cox–Merz rule is not respected. Compared to the PP/rPET blend, the GnP led to a slight incre…
Polyoxometalate-based metal-organic frameworks for boosting electrochemical capacitor performance
2019
Abstract Polyoxometalate-based metal-organic frameworks (POMOFs) possess promising applications as capacitors. Herein, we report the syntheses, structures and electrochemical properties of five copper-containing POMOFs: [CuI4H2(btx)5(PW12O40)2]·2H2O (1), [CuIICuI3(H2O)2(btx)5(PWVI10WV2O40)]·2H2O (2), [CuI6(btx)6(PWVI9WV3O40)]·2H2O (3), [CuI4H2(btx)5(PMo12O40)2]·2H2O (4) and [CuIICuI3(btx)5(SiMoVI11MoVO40)]·4H2O (5) (btx = 1,4-bis(triazol-1-ylmethyl) benzene) with potential applications as capacitors. Compounds 1–3 contain the same Keggin-type polyoxometalate (POM) although with different oxidation states, allowing the analysis of the effect of the electronic population on the capacitance pe…
The effect of oxalate-based desensitizers on the microleakage and shear bond strength of resin modified glass ionomer
2017
Background The first line of intervention to alleviate tooth sensitivity is to use dentin desensitizers such as oxalate-based desensitizers. When the dentin sensitivity continues even after application of desensitizers the next intervention would be restoration of the lesion. The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the effect of prior application of oxalate-based desensitizer on the marginal microleakage and shear bond strength of resin modified glass ionomer (RMGI) restorations. Material and methods In order to prepare the specimens for microleakage test standard class v cavities were prepared on buccal surfaces of 45 teeth. The specimens were randomly divided into three equal gr…
Intercalation of two-dimensional oxalate-bridged molecule-based magnets into layered double hydroxide hosts
2010
Here we report the intercalation of a MnII–CrIII oxalate-bridged extended network into the interlamellar space offered by a ZnII–AlIII LDH host. This material exhibits ferrimagnetic ordering below 3 K from dominant antiferromagnetic interactions between metallic centres through the oxalate linker. Our result opens the door for the design of a completely new sort of hybrid magnetic multilayers from molecule-based magnets and layered inorganic flexible hosts, where the intrinsic properties of both sub-layers can be combined.
Facile hydrothermal synthesis of crystalline Ta2O5 nanorods, MTaO3 (M = H, Na, K, Rb) nanoparticles, and their photocatalytic behaviour
2014
Alkali metal tantalates are of interest for applications in photocatalysis as well as in high temperature resistance or capacitor dielectric materials. We have synthesized nanosized Ta2O5 rods and MTaO3 cubes (M = Na, K, Rb) hydrothermally and demonstrate the pH dependence of the synthesis of tantalum oxide and tantalate nanoparticles. The morphologies of the nanoparticles range from particle agglomerates in acidic reaction media over rods at neutral pH to tantalate cubes in basic reaction media. Whereas there is no apparent influence of the base cation on the particle morphology, there is a pronounced effect on the particle composition. At high base concentrations cubic tantalate particles…
Volume integrated phase modulator based on funnel waveguides for reconfigurable miniaturized optical circuits.
2015
We demonstrate the integration of a miniaturized 30(x) μm × 30(y) μm × 2.7(z) mm electro-optic phase modulator operating in the near-IR (λ = 980 nm) based on the electro-activation of a funnel waveguide inside a paraelectric sample of photorefractive potassium lithium tantalate niobate. The modulator forms a basic tassel in the realization of miniaturized reconfigurable optical circuits embedded in a single solid-state three-dimensional chip.
Features of randomized electric-field assisted domain inversion in lithium tantalate
2011
We report on bulk and guided-wave second-harmonic generation via random Quasi-Phase-Matching in Lithium Tantalate. By acquiring the far-field profiles at several wavelengths, we extract statistical information on the distribution of the quadratic nonlinearity as well as its average period, both at the surface and in the bulk of the sample. By investigating the distribution in the two regions we demonstrate a non-invasive approach to the study of poling dynamics.
Fragmenting gadolinium: Mononuclear polyoxometalate-based magnetic coolers for ultra-low temperatures
2012
The polyoxometalate clusters with formula [Gd(W 5O 18) 2] 9- and [Gd(P 5W 30O 110)] 12- each carry a single magnetic ion of gadolinium, which is the most widespread element among magnetic refrigerant materials. In an adiabatic demagnetization, the lowest attainable temperature is limited by the presence of magnetic interactions that bring about magnetic order below a critical temperature. We demonstrate that this limitation can be overcome by chemically engineering the molecules in such a way to effectively screen all magnetic interactions, suggesting their use as ultra-low-temperature coolers. © 2012 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Effect of a Compatibilizer on the Morphology and Properties of Polypropylene/Polyethylentherephthalate Spun Fibers
2017
Fibers spun by melt spinning of binary and ternary polypropylene/ polyethylenetherephthalate blends have been produced and characterized in order to investigate the effect of a compatibilizer on their morphology and mechanical properties. The compatibilizer was a maleic anhydride-functionalized rubber copolymer. The effect of the compatibilizer was well evident in the isotropic state, as the morphology became very fine, the size of the dispersed particles was very small, and the adhesion was better. The effect of the compatibilizer on the mechanical properties is very relevant, especially in the elongation at break. On the contrary, no relevant effect was observed in the anisotropic oriente…
