Ion irradiation of AZO thin films for flexible electronics

2017

Aluminum doped Zinc oxide (AZO) is a promising transparent conductor for solar cells, displays and touch-screen technologies. The resistivity of AZO is typically improved by thermal annealing at temperatures not suitable for plastic substrates. Here we present a non-thermal route to improve the electrical and structural properties of AZO by irradiating the TCO films with O+ or Ar+ ion beams (30–350 keV, 3 × 1015–3 × 1016 ions/cm2) after the deposition on glass and flexible polyethylene naphthalate (PEN). X-ray diffraction, optical absorption, electrical measurements, Rutherford Backscattering Spectrometry and Atomic Force Microscopy evidenced an increase of the crystalline grain size and a …

Nine weeks versus 1 year adjuvant trastuzumab in combination with chemotherapy: final results of the phase III randomized Short-HER study

2018

Background: Chemotherapy plus 1-year trastuzumab is the standard adjuvant treatment of HER2-positive breast cancer. The efficacy of less extended trastuzumab exposure is under investigation. The short-HER study was aimed to assess the non-inferiority of 9 weeks versus 1 year of adjuvant trastuzumab combined with chemotherapy. Patients and methods: HER2-positive breast cancer patients with node-positive or, if node negative, with at least one risk factor (pT>2 cm, G3, lympho-vascular invasion, Ki-67 > 20%, age 35 years, or hormone receptor negativity) were randomly assigned to receive sequential anthracycline-taxane combinations plus 1-year trastuzumab (arm A, long) or plus 9 weeks tra…

Ultraviolet generation in periodically poled Lithium Tantalate waveguides

2008

We demonstrate ultraviolet generation in lithium tantalate channel waveguides for frequency doubling via quasi-phase-matching. The samples, proton exchanged and nanostructured by electric-field assisted surface periodic poling with domains as deep as 40 μm, yield continuous wave light at 365.4 nm with conversion efficiencies larger than 7.5% W-1 cm-2.

Soft proton exchanged channel waveguides in congruent lithium tantalate for frequency doubling

2010

We report on stable optical waveguides fabricated by soft-proton exchange in periodically-poled congruent lithium tantalate in the a-phase. The channel waveguides are characterized in the telecom wavelength range in terms of both linear properties and frequency doubling. The measurements yield a nonlinear coefficient of about 9.5pm/V, demonstrating that the nonlinear optical properties of lithium tantalate are left nearly unaltered by the process. Oral, facial, digital, vertebral anomalies with psychomotor delay: a mild form of OFD type Gabrielli?

2002

A girl with oral, facial, and digital anomalies presented at birth with a large cleft palate filled by a nasopharyngeal mass and was found later to have several vertebral anomalies and mental retardation. A similar phenotype has been previously reported in a sporadic male patient [Gabrielli et al., 1994: Am J Med Genet 53:290-293], suggesting a new variant form of oral-facial-digital syndrome.

Hybrid Molecular Magnets Obtained by Insertion of Decamethylmetallocenium Cations into Layered, Bimetallic Oxalate Complexes: [ZIIICp*2][MIIMIII(ox)3…

2000

A new series of hybrid organometallic - inorganic layered magnets with the formula [Z(III)Cp*2][M(II)M(III)(ox)3] (Z(III) = Co, Fe; M(III) = Cr, Fe; M(II) = Mn, Fe, Co, Cu, Zn; ox = oxalate; Cp* = pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) has been prepared. All of these compounds are isostructural and crystallize in the monoclinic space group C2/m, as found by X-ray structure analysis. Their structure consists of an eclipsed stacking of the bimetallic oxalate-based extended layers separated by layers of organometallic cations. These salts show spontaneous magnetization below To, which corresponds to the presence of ferro-, ferri-, or canted antiferromagnetism. Compounds in which the paramagnetic deca-me…

Technological properties of Oenococcus oeni strains isolated from typical southern Italian wines.

2010

Aims:  To isolate indigenous Oenococcus oeni strains suitable as starters for malolactic fermentation (MLF), using a reliable polyphasic approach. Methods and Results: Oenococcus oeni strains were isolated from Nero di Troia wines undergoing spontaneous MLF. Samples were taken at the end of alcoholic fermentation and during MLF. Wine samples were diluted in a sterile physiological solution and plated on MRS and on modified FT80. Identification of O. oeni strains was performed by a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) experiment using strain-specific primers. Strains were further grouped using a multiplex RAPD-PCR analysis. Then, six strains were inoculated in two wine-like media with two differe…

Carbon–Phosphorus Coupling from C^N Cyclometalated Au III Complexes

2020

Abstract With the aim of exploiting new organometallic species for cross‐coupling reactions, we report here on the AuIII‐mediated Caryl−P bond formation occurring upon reaction of C^N cyclometalated AuIII complexes with phosphines. The [Au(C^N)Cl2] complex 1 featuring the bidentate 2‐benzoylpyridine (CCON) scaffold was found to react with PTA (1,3,5‐triaza‐7‐phosphaadamantane) under mild conditions, including in water, to afford the corresponding phosphonium 5 through C−P reductive elimination. A mechanism is proposed for the title reaction based on in situ 31P{1H} NMR and HR‐ESI‐MS analyses combined with DFT calculations. The C−P coupling has been generalized to other C^N cyclometalated Au…

Objective tinnitus secondary to palatal tremor: Two case reports and brief literature review.

2021

Abstract Objective tinnitus is defined as a type of tinnitus perceived by both the patient and external observer. This paper presents two cases of objective tinnitus related to palatal tremor, along with a literature review. Palatal tremor is a condition characterized by soft palate involuntary contractions. Two types of palatal tremor have been described: symptomatic palatal tremor and essential palatal tremor, with different clinical manifestations. Diagnostic workup is based on medical history and physical examination, including direct oropharynx exploration and cavum visualization through nasopharyngoscopy. Brain MRI is mandatory in all cases. If a secondary origin is suspected, additio…

Airways cephalometric norms from a sample of Caucasian Children

2021

Background: The diagnosis of the respiratory pattern and the analysis of airway dimension using lateral cephalometric radiographs include the study of the adenoid region, free air space of the nasopharynx and oropharynx, soft palate and posterior part of the tongue. The objective of this study is to identify the airways cephalometric norms from a sample of Caucasian children, in relation to gender, age and type of malocclusion. Material and Methods: A total of 480 patients of both sexes were included in the study, the age ranged between 6-12 years. The radiographic records were analyzed using the Nemoceph® 11.3.0 software and the diagnosis of skeletal class was performed using the Steiner a…
