The enthalpy and the volume of transfer (DeltaY(t)) of the unassociated (ethylene oxide)(13)-(propylene oxide)(30)-(ethylene oxide)(13) (L64) from water to the aqueous sodium alkanoate solutions as functions of the surfactant concentrations (m(S)) were determined at 298 K. The surfactants studied are sodium hexanoate, sodium heptanoate, sodium octanoate, sodium undecanoate, and sodium dodecanoate. Abstract Flavour loss strongly affects food quality. In order to decrease flavour changes during food conservation, different strategies could be used. Aroma compound encapsulation allows the protection of food flavour from loss and degradative reactions, like oxidation. A simple synthetic methodology for the preparation of a polystyrene- supported L-proline material is reported, and this material has been used as catalyst in direct asymmetric aldol reactions between several ketones and arylaldehydes to furnish aldol products in high yields and stereoselectivities. Sumatriptan Succinate Transdermal Delivery Systems for The Treatment of Migraine

We have successfully obtained sumatriptan transdermal systems with different polymer compositions: methyl cellulose (MC), polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP) and a polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP)-polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) mixture. The systems contained 1,2-propylenglycol (MC) or sorbitol as a plasticizer (PVP and PVP-PVA), methacrylate copolymer as an adhesive agent, and an occlusive liner. Azone (5%, w/w) was incorporated into all the systems as a percutaneous enhancer. Transdermal systems are thin, transparent and non-adhesive when in a dry state. Kinetics of ascorbic acid degradation in fruit-based infant foods during storage

The kinetics of ascorbic acid (AA) degradation in a fruit-based beikost product added with AA were determined after storage at 4, 25, 37 and 50 °C during 4, 8, 12, 16 and 32 weeks in plastic polypropylene/ethylenevinyl alcohol vacuum packaging. It was confirmed that AA degradation followed an Arrhenius first-order kinetics, with an activation energy of 20.11 ± 0.33 kcal mol−1. No AA losses at 4 °C were recorded during the entire storage period. In contrast, a time - and temperature - dependent decrease (p the degradation rate decreasing from 50 °C to 25 °C, as expected. AA percentage retention at the end of storage ranged between 6.4% (50 °C/16 weeks) and 100.9% (4 °C/32 weeks).
