1989
Asymmetric Diels-Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene (I) with (S)-proline benzyl ester (II) yields a mixture of the diastereomeric cycloadducts (R)-(III) and (S)-(IV).
ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of a Fullerene Derivative of Benzo(18)crown-6 by Diels-Alder Reaction: Complexation Ability, Amphiphilic Properties, a…
2010
A fullerene derivative 1 of benzo[18]crown-6 was obtained by Diels-Alder addition of fullerene[60](C60) to the ortho-quinodimethane prepared in situ from 4,5-bis(bromomethyl)benzo[18]crown-6 (3) with Bu4NI in toluene. Extraction experiments show that the complexation of K+ ions strongly increases the solubility of 1 in protic solvents like MeOH. Using Langmuir-Blodgett techniques, monolayers of the highly amphiphilic fullerene-derived crown ether 1 and its K+ ion complex were prepared. An X-ray crystal structure was obtained from a benzene clathrate of comparison compound 2, synthesized by Diels-Alder reaction of C60 with the ortho-quinodimethane derived from 1,2-bis(bromomethyl)-4,5-dimeth…
A new access to 2′-amino-substituted vinylindoles as donor-activated heterocyclic dienes and their first diels-alder reactions
1992
Abstract Reactions of the 3-acylindoles 5, 10 , and 15 with α-amino-α′-diphenylphosphinoyl-substituted carbanions gave rise to the 2′-amino-substituted 3− and 2-vinylindoles 7, 12 , and 17 by way of the isolable carbinols 6 , 11 , and 16 . The heterocyclic dienes 7 , 12 , and 17 readily underwent Diels-Alder reactions with N -phenylmaleimide.

A series of copolymers are synthesized by repetitive Diels-Alder polyaddition reaction of bifunctional cyclohepta-1,3,5-trienes with bifunctional 1,2,4-triazoline-3,5-diones. The copolymers of different bistriazolinediones with a bisdiene, or of different biscycloheptatrienes with a dienophile, have good solubility in CH2Cl2 and CHCl3, while the homopolymers are poorly soluble. The copolymers were characterized by standard analytical techniques to test the structural regularity of these systems. Due to the kinetic control, it is possible to apply copolymerization statistics to these systems. Based on a model study, it is concluded that alipatic and aromatic bistriazolinediones have the same…
ChemInform Abstract: Highly Enantio- and Diastereoselective Inverse Electron Demand Hetero-Diels-Alder Reaction Using 2-Alkenoylpyridine N-Oxides as …
2009
A general catalytic inverse electron demand hetero-Diels Alder reaction for 2-alkenoylpyridine N-oxides is presented. 2-Alkenoylpyridine N-oxides react very efficiently with alkenes in the presence of bisoxazolidine-copper(II) [BOX-Cu(II)] complexes to give chiral dihydropyrans bearing a pyridine ring at the 6-position with very high yields and excellent diastereo- and enantioselectivity. These heterodienes exhibited higher reactivity and enantioselectivity than the corresponding non-oxidized 2-alkenoylpyridines.
WHY DIELS-ALDER REACTIONS ARE NON-CONCERTED PROCESSES
2014
ABSTRACT Two exhaustive topological analyses using the Electron Localisation Function (ELF) along the non-polar Diels-Alder reactions of 1,3-butadiene [J. Phys. Chem. A 107 , 6014 (2003)] and cyclopentadiene [Org. Biomol. Chem. 8 , 5495, (2010)] with ethylene established that the bonding changes along these reactions are non-concerted. Herein, the ELF bonding changes along the intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction of 1-( hex-5-enyl)cyclohexa-1,3-diene is analysed. The geometrical restrictions imposed by the tether break the synchronicity in the single bond formation in this non-polar reaction. The present ELF topological analysis along this intramolecular Diels-Alder reaction supports the ear…
A dft study of the regioselectivity in intramolecular diels-alder reactions with formation of a tricyclodecane skeleton
2011
Three different intramolecular Diels-Alder (IMDA) reactions associated with the formation of fused and bridged tricyclodecane skeletons have been studied at the B3LYP/6-31G(d) computational level. While substitution on the diene and dienophile fragments modulates the polar character of the reaction, the strain effect produced by the methylene tether affects the activation energy, and its torsion controls the different regioisomeric channels of the IMDA process. Analysis of the reactivity indices recently proposed (J. Soto-Delgado et al., Org. Biomol. Chem., 2010, 8, 3678) within the conceptual density functional theory allows for the characterization of the mechanism including the charge tr…
An AM1 study on π-facial selectivity in Diels-Alder reactions of 2-aza-1, 3-dienes with azodienophiles
1994
Abstract A theoretical study of the π-facial selectivity in Diels-Alder reactions of chloro derivatives of 2-aza-1,3-dienes with azodienophiles has been carried out using the semiempirical AM1 method. Three transition structures for the model reaction of the diene 3 with the dienophile 4 were located. The Diels-Alder reaction of the non-substituted 2-aza-1,3-diene 6 with the trans -diimide was studied. All transition structures located show an important asynchronicity and the calculations reveal the presence of stereoelectronic effects. The predicted stereoselectivity is in agreement with the experimental evidence.
1,7-Octadiene-Assisted Tandem Multicomponent Cross-Enyne Metathesis (CEYM)-Diels-Alder Reactions: A Useful Alternative to Mori’s Conditions
2012
The use of 1,7-octadiene as an in situ source of ethylene led us to develop a novel multicomponent tandem cross-enyne metathesis (CEYM)-Diels-Alder reaction. The process can be considered a relay metathesis, in which the ethylene liberated in the ring-closing metathesis (RCM) of 1,7-octadiene initiates the tandem sequence. Aliphatic, aromatic, and fluorinated alkynes and several dienophiles are compatible with the process, which is particularly efficient with aromatic alkynes. This methodology constitutes a useful variant of Mori's conditions in CEYM-related reactions.

The protocol relies on a relay metathesis process, in which 1,7-octadiene acts as an in situ source of ethylene.
