ChemInform Abstract: Nb4Te17I4, a New Pseudo One-Dimensional Solid-State Polytelluride.
2010
The new ternary compound Nb4Te17I4 has been prepared and structurally characterized. It crystallizes in the monoclinic system, space group C2/c with unit-cell parameters a = 16.199(4), b = 8.128(2), c = 27.355(6) A, β = 110.84(2)°, Z = 4. The structure consists of infinite one-dimensional niobium/tellurium chains running parallel to the crystallographic c direction. The chains are separated by iodine atoms. Short and long metal–metal distances alternate in the sequence of three consecutive short bonds ([d ≈ 3.1 – 3.2 A) and one long (d = 4.268 A) metal–metal separation. Each Nb atom is eight-coordinate. The composition of the chain is ∞11[(Nb5+)2(Nb4+)2(Te22−)4(Te32−)3(I−)4].
Synthesis and photodimerisation of tetrabenzo[ab,f,jk,o][18]annulenes
1999
Abstract The tetrabenzo[ab,f,jk,o][18]annulenes 7a,b, generated in a 5-step synthesis, show photodimerisation and -oligomerisation reactions in the solid state and in solution. The state of aggregation determines the reaction route. Whereas the cyclodimer 8a has a simple cyclobutane structure, the dimer 8b is a highly symmetrical cyclophane.
Synthesis and Properties of Some Simple Organotitanium Compounds
1986
Before embarking on a detailed discussion of the titanation of carbanions, synthetic and physical organic aspects of several typical organotitanium (IV) compounds shall be surveyed, including thermal stability, aggregation state, X-ray structural data and bond energies. Some of this information is useful in understanding reactivity and selectivity in reactions with organic substrates. Low valent Ti (II) and Ti (III) shall be mentioned only on passing; the interested reader is referred to reviews [1].

Diffusion coefficients D of singly and doubly end-labeled polystyrenes (PS) with molecular weights in the range 6500 ≤ M ≤ 75400 were measured in a PS matrix of molecular weight M′ = 111000, and in matrices with M′ = M. At 212°C, we find no influence of the label. In a power-law description D = D0 · M−α · M′−β we find α = 2,0 for M′ = 111000 and α + β = 2,4 for M = M′. The crossover to Rouse-like behavior for short-M chains is at Me ≈ 18000 for the former (high M′), and at Mc ≈ 33000 in the latter (M′ = M) case. At 185°C, we find a more complex scaling behavior and different D values for singly and doubly labeled PS.

Synthesis, electrochemistry, protonation and X-ray analysis of meso-aryl substituted open-chain pentapyrroles
2019
Five meso-tetraaryl open-chain pentapyrroles were synthesized and characterized as to their electrochemistry and protonation reactions in nonaqueous media. The investigated compounds are represented as (Ar)4PPyH3 where Ar [Formula: see text],[Formula: see text]-F2Ph, [Formula: see text]-BrPh, Ph, [Formula: see text],[Formula: see text],[Formula: see text]-(OMe)3Ph or [Formula: see text]-MePh and were characterized by UV-vis and 1H NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and electrochemistry. Cyclic voltammetry was used to measure redox potentials, while protonation involving the conversion of (Ar)4PPyH3 to [(Ar)4PPyH5][Formula: see text] was monitored by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy. Equilib…
A Carbohydrate-Based Julia–Kocienski Reagent for Syntheses of Chain-Extended and C-Linked Saccharides
2014
The carbohydrate-derived Julia–Kocienski reagent 2-{[(3aS,4S,6R,6aR)-6-methoxy-2,2-dimethyltetrahydrofuro[3,4-d][1,3]dioxol-4-yl]methylsulfonyl}-1,3-benzothiazole (6) was prepared from d -ribose and investigated in the eponymous olefination. The base-promoted generation of the Julia anion induced a rearrangement to the corresponding l -lyxose epimer 2-{[(3aS,4R,6R,6aR)-6-methoxy-2,2-dimethyltetrahydrofuro[3,4-d][1,3]dioxol-4-yl]methylsulfonyl}-1,3-benzothiazole (12), which reacted readily with aldehydes and with a gluconolactone. The latter reaction furnished an exo-glycal-linked C-diglycoside.
