Elementary (-1)-curves of P-3

2006

In this note we deal with rational curves in P^3 which are images of a line by means of a finite sequence of cubo-cubic Cremona transformations. We prove that these curves can always be obtained applying to the line a sequence of such transformations increasing at each step the degree of the curve. As a corollary we get a result about curves that can give speciality for linear systems of P^3.

Triple planes with $p_g=q=0$

We show that general triple planes with p_g=q=0 belong to at most 12 families, that we call surfaces of type I,..., XII, and we prove that the corresponding Tschirnhausen bundle is direct sum of two line bundles in cases I, II, III, whereas is a rank 2 Steiner bundle in the remaining cases. We also provide existence results and explicit constructions for surfaces of type I,..., VII, recovering all classical examples and discovering several new ones. In particular, triple planes of type VII provide counterexamples to a wrong claim made in 1942 by Bronowski.

The cup product of Hilbert schemes for K3 surfaces

To any graded Frobenius algebra A we associate a sequence of graded Frobenius algebras A [n] so that there is canonical isomorphism of rings (H *(X;ℚ)[2]) [n] ≅H *(X [n] ;ℚ)[2n] for the Hilbert scheme X [n] of generalised n-tuples of any smooth projective surface X with numerically trivial canonical bundle.

On multiples of divisors associated to Veronese embeddings with defective secant variety

2009

In this note we consider multiples aD, where D is a divisor of the blow-up of P^n along points in general position which appears in the Alexander and Hirschowitz list of Veronese embeddings having defective secant varieties. In particular we show that there is such a D with h^1(X,D) > 0 and h^1(X,2D) = 0.

Integrable systems and moduli spaces of curves

This document has the purpose of presenting in an organic way my research on integrable systems originating from the geometry of moduli spaces of curves, with applications to Gromov-Witten theory and mirror symmetry. The text contains a short introduction to the main ideas and prerequisites of the subject from geometry and mathematical physics, followed by a synthetic review of some of my papers (listed below) starting from my PhD thesis (October 2008), and with some open questions and future developements. Quotients of Hypersurfaces in Weighted Projective Space

Abstract In [Bini, van Geemen, Kelly, Mirror quintics, discrete symmetries and Shioda maps, 2009] some quotients of one-parameter families of Calabi–Yau varieties are related to the family of Mirror Quintics by using a construction due to Shioda. In this paper, we generalize this construction to a wider class of varieties. More specifically, let A be an invertible matrix with non-negative integer entries. We introduce varieties XA and in weighted projective space and in , respectively. The variety turns out to be a quotient of a Fermat variety by a finite group. Symmetries and equations of smooth quartic surfaces with many lines

2017

We provide explicit equations of some smooth complex quartic surfaces with many lines, including all 10 quartics with more than 52 lines. We study the relation between linear automorphisms and some configurations of lines such as twin lines and special lines. We answer a question by Oguiso on a determinantal presentation of the Fermat quartic surface.

Lines on K3 quartic surfaces in characteristic 2

2016

We prove that a K3 quartic surface defined over a field of characteristic 2 can contain at most 68 lines. If it contains 68 lines, then it is projectively equivalent to a member of a 1-dimensional family found by Rams and Sch\"utt.

Albanese Maps and Fundamental Groups of Varieties With Many Rational Points Over Function Fields

We investigate properties of the Albanese map and the fundamental group of a complex projective variety with many rational points over some function field, and prove that every linear quotient of the fundamental group of such a variety is virtually abelian, as well as that its Albanese map is surjective, has connected fibres, and has no multiple fibres in codimension one.

Generalized Alomari functionals

We consider a generalized form of certain integral inequalities given by Guessab, Schmeisser and Alomari. The trapezoidal, mid point, Simpson, Newton-Simpson rules are obtained as special cases. Also, inequalities for the generalized Alomari functional in terms of the $n$-th order modulus, $n=\overline{1,4}$, are given and applied to some known quadrature rules.
