Identities of *-superalgebras and almost polynomial growth

We study the growth of the codimensions of a *-superalgebra over a field of characteristic zero. We classify the ideals of identities of finite dimensional algebras whose corresponding codimensions are of almost polynomial growth. It turns out that these are the ideals of identities of two algebras with distinct involutions and gradings. Along the way, we also classify the finite dimensional simple *-superalgebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero.

On the graded identities and cocharacters of the algebra of 3×3 matrices

Abstract Let M2,1(F) be the algebra of 3×3 matrices over an algebraically closed field F of characteristic zero with non-trivial Z 2 -grading. We study the graded identities of this algebra through the representation theory of the hyperoctahedral group Z 2 ∼S n . After splitting the space of multilinear polynomial identities into the sum of irreducibles under the Z 2 ∼S n -action, we determine all the irreducible Z 2 ∼S n -characters appearing in this decomposition with non-zero multiplicity. We then apply this result in order to study the graded cocharacter of the Grassmann envelope of M2,1(F). On fully ramified Brauer characters

Let Z be a normal subgroup of a finite group, let p≠5 be a prime and let λ∈IBr(Z) be an irreducible G-invariant p-Brauer character of Z. Suppose that λG=eφ for some φ∈IBr(G). Then G/Z is solvable. In other words, a twisted group algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic not 5 with a unique class of simple modules comes from a solvable group.

The exponent for superalgebras with superinvolution

Abstract Let A be a superalgebra with superinvolution over a field of characteristic zero and let c n ⁎ ( A ) , n = 1 , 2 , … , be its sequence of ⁎-codimensions. In [6] it was proved that such a sequence is exponentially bounded. In this paper we capture this exponential growth for finitely generated superalgebras with superinvolution A over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We shall prove that lim n → ∞ ⁡ c n ⁎ ( A ) n exists and it is an integer, denoted exp ⁎ ⁡ ( A ) and called ⁎-exponent of A. Moreover, we shall characterize finitely generated superalgebras with superinvolution according to their ⁎-exponent.

Superinvolutions on upper-triangular matrix algebras

Let UTn(F) be the algebra of n×n upper-triangular matrices over an algebraically closed field F of characteristic zero. In [18], the authors described all abelian G-gradings on UTn(F) by showing that any G-grading on this algebra is an elementary grading. In this paper, we shall consider the algebra UTn(F) endowed with an elementary Z2-grading. In this way, it has a structure of superalgebra and our goal is to completely describe the superinvolutions which can be defined on it. To this end, we shall prove that the superinvolutions and the graded involutions (i.e., involutions preserving the grading) on UTn(F) are strictly related through the so-called superautomorphisms of this algebra. 𝔸1-contractibility of affine modifications

We introduce Koras–Russell fiber bundles over algebraically closed fields of characteristic zero. After a single suspension, this exhibits an infinite family of smooth affine [Formula: see text]-contractible [Formula: see text]-folds. Moreover, we give examples of stably [Formula: see text]-contractible smooth affine [Formula: see text]-folds containing a Brieskorn–Pham surface, and a family of smooth affine [Formula: see text]-folds with a higher-dimensional [Formula: see text]-contractible total space.

On the blockwise modular isomorphism problem

As a generalization of the modular isomorphism problem we study the behavior of defect groups under Morita equivalence of blocks of finite groups over algebraically closed fields of positive characteristic. We prove that the Morita equivalence class of a block B of defect at most 3 determines the defect groups of B up to isomorphism. In characteristic 0 we prove similar results for metacyclic defect groups and 2-blocks of defect 4. In the second part of the paper we investigate the situation for p-solvable groups G. Among other results we show that the group algebra of G itself determines if G has abelian Sylow p-subgroups.

Let g be a semisimple Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic 0. The set of fixed points of a semisimple inner automorphism of g is a regular reductive subalgebra of maximal rank [1], so it is defined by a subsystem of the root system Φ of g relative to a suitable Cartan subalgebra. The main theorem of the article characterizes the corresponding subsystems of Φ. The second part of the article shows how to compute the fixed point algebras of semisimple outer automorphisms of g. A complete list of all fixed point algebras is then easily obtainable. The results are applied to bounded symmetric domains. References
