a b s t r a c t Genetic algorithms (GAs) are appropriate when investors have the objective of obtaining mean-variance (VaR) efficient frontier as minimising VaR leads to non-convex and non-differential risk-return optimisation problems. However GAs are a time-consuming optimisation technique. In this paper, we propose to use a naive approach consisting of using samples split by quartile of risk to obtain complete efficient frontiers in a reasonable computation time. Se aplicaron y compararon tres algoritmos del tipo Split-Window (SW), que permitieron estimar la temperatura superficial del mar desde datos aportados por el sensor Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR), a bordo de la serie de satélites de la National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). La validación de los algoritmos fue lograda por comparación con mediciones in situ de temperatura del mar provenientes de una boya hidrográfica, ubicada frente a la costa norte de Chile (21°21'S, 70°6'W; Región de Tarapacá), a 3 km de la costa aproximadamente. Event reconstruction algorithms for the ATLAS trigger

The ATLAS experiment under construction at CERN is due to begin operation at the end of 2007. The detector will record the results of proton-proton collisions at a centerof- mass energy of 14 TeV. The trigger is a three-tier system designed to identify in real-time potentially interesting events that are then saved for detailed offline analysis. The trigger system will select approximately 200 Hz of potentially interesting events out of the 40 MHz bunch-crossing rate (with 109 interactions per second at the nominal luminosity). Current interest in Fourier lightfield microscopy is increasing, due to its ability to acquire 3D images of thick dynamic samples. This technique is based on simultaneously capturing, in a single shot, and with a monocular setup, a number of orthographic perspective views of 3D microscopic samples. An essential feature of Fourier lightfield microscopy is that the number of acquired views is low, due to the trade-off relationship existing between the number of views and their corresponding lateral resolution.
