Decay properties of265Sg(Z=106)and266Sg(Z=106)

1998

The presently known most neutron-rich isotopes of element 106 (seaborgium, Sg), {sup 265}Sg and {sup 266}Sg, were produced in the fusion reaction {sup 22}Ne+{sup 248}Cm at beam energies of 121 and 123 MeV. Using the On-Line Gas chemistry Apparatus OLGA, a continuous separation of Sg was achieved within a few seconds. Final products were assayed by {alpha}-particle and spontaneous fission (SF) spectrometry. {sup 265}Sg and {sup 266}Sg were identified by observing time correlated {alpha}-{alpha}-({alpha}) and {alpha}-SF decay chains. A total of 13 correlated decay chains of {sup 265}Sg (with an estimated number of 2.8 random correlations) and 3 decay chains of {sup 266}Sg (0.6 random correlat…

Proton and alpha-particle capture reactions at sub-Coulomb energies relevant to the p process

2005

Several cross-section measurements of proton as well as α-particle capture reactions in the Se–Sb region have been carried out at sub-Coulomb energies with the aim to obtain global input parameters for Hauser–Feshbach (HF) calculations. Some of the results are compared with HF calculations using various optical model potentials and nuclear level densities.

Production of very neutron-deficient isotopes near Sn via reactions involving light-particle and cluster emission

2000

Abstract The production of very neutron-deficient isotopes near 100Sn has been investigated by using on-line mass separation of evaporation residues produced by heavy-ion induced complete-fusion reactions. We measured the cross sections for 99Cd, 100In, 101Sn and 102In via 58Ni+58Ni fusion reactions followed by cluster emission, and via 58Ni+50Cr fusion reactions accompanied by evaporation of protons, neutrons or α particles. Both types of reactions yield similar cross sections for the production of exotic nuclei near 100Sn. The data are discussed in comparison with results obtained from statistical-model calculations.

APXS and MIMOS IIA: Planetary and terrestrial applications

2011

Both Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and the Miniaturized Moessbauer Spectrometer (MIMOS II) have shown their performances in space missions and terrestrial applications. Taking advantage of the challenges of space missions both instruments have become very powerful tools, even small in mass and dimensions.

Astrophysical reaction rates forB10(p,α)7Be andB11(p,α)8Be from a direct model

1996

The reactions $^{10}\mathrm{B}$(p,\ensuremath{\alpha}${)}^{7}$Be and $^{11}\mathrm{B}$(p,\ensuremath{\alpha}${)}^{8}$Be are studied at thermonuclear energies using DWBA calculations. For both reactions, transitions to the ground states and first excited states are investigated. In the case of $^{10}\mathrm{B}$(p,\ensuremath{\alpha}${)}^{7}$Be, a resonance at ${\mathit{E}}_{\mathrm{res}}$=10 keV can be consistently described in the potential model, thereby allowing the extension of the astrophysical S-factor data to very low energies. Strong interference with a resonance at about ${\mathit{E}}_{\mathrm{res}}$=550 keV require a Breit-Wigner description of that resonance and the introduction o…

New Insight into the Cluster Structure of $^9$Be by Reactions with Deuteron Beam

2018

International audience; Angular distributions of protons, deuterons, tritons, and alpha particles emitted in the reaction 2H+9Be at Elab=19.5, 25, and 35 MeV were measured to study the structure of 9Be, especially to shed light on the internal clusters and possible cluster transfer of 5He. The experiments were performed at sufficiently high energies to ensure suppression of compound nucleus contribution. Thus, the direct reaction mechanism should be mainly responsible for the measured five-nucleon transfer cross section. The analysis suggests a significant contribution of simultaneous five-nucleon transfer in the reaction channel 9Be (d,4He) 7Li.

Energy and frequency dependence of the alpha particle redistribution produced by internal kink modes

2014

International audience; The redistribution of alpha particles due to internal kink modes is studied. The exact particle trajectories in the total fields, equilibrium plus perturbation, are calculated. The equilibrium has circular cross section and the plasma parameters are similar to those expected in ITER. The alpha particles are initially distributed according to a slowing down distribution function and have energies between 18 keV and 3.5 MeV. The (1, 1), (2, 2), and (2, 1) modes are included and the effect of changing their amplitude and frequency is studied. When only the (1, 1) mode is included, the spreading of high energy ( E≳1  MeV) alpha particles increases slowly with the energy …

Doubly Magic NucleusHs162108270

2006

Theoretical calculations predict $^{270}\mathrm{Hs}$ ($Z=108$, $N=162$) to be a doubly magic deformed nucleus, decaying mainly by $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle emission. In this work, based on a rapid chemical isolation of Hs isotopes produced in the $^{26}\mathrm{Mg}+^{248}\mathrm{Cm}$ reaction, we observed 15 genetically linked nuclear decay chains. Four chains were attributed to the new nuclide $^{270}\mathrm{Hs}$, which decays by $\ensuremath{\alpha}$-particle emission with ${Q}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}=9.02\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}0.03\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ to $^{266}\mathrm{Sg}$ which undergoes spontaneous fission with a half-life of ${444}_{\ensuremath{-}148}^{+444}\text{ }\t…
