Metal homeostasis regulators suppress FRDA phenotypes in a drosophila model of the disease

2016

Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA), the most commonly inherited ataxia in populations of European origin, is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by a decrease in frataxin levels. One of the hallmarks of the disease is the accumulation of iron in several tissues including the brain, and frataxin has been proposed to play a key role in iron homeostasis. We found that the levels of zinc, copper, manganese and aluminum were also increased in a Drosophila model of FRDA, and that copper and zinc chelation improve their impaired motor performance. By means of a candidate genetic screen, we identified that genes implicated in iron, zinc and copper transport and metal detoxification can restore frataxin def…

Immune-Related Pneumonitis After Chemoradiotherapy and Subsequent Immune Checkpoint Blockade in Unresectable Stage III Non-Small-Cell Lung Cancer.

2019

Approximately one third of patients with non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) present with stage III or locally advanced NSCLC. These patients have historically been managed with chemoradiotherapy. However, outcomes for these patients remain poor, with a 5-year survival rate between 15% and 32%. Immune checkpoint inhibitors have revolutionized the treatment of patients with NSCLC. One such agent, durvalumab, a selective high-affinity human immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody that blocks programmed cell death ligand 1 binding to programmed cell death protein 1 and cluster of differentiation 80, was recently approved in the consolidation setting after completion of definitive platinum-based c…

Durvalumab after definitive chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced unresectable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC): Real-world data on survival and sa…

2020

Abstract Background Following the PACIFIC trial, durvalumab has been approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for consolidation of locally advanced PD-L1-positive NSCLC after chemoradiotherapy (CRT). Patients were treated with durvalumab in the EAP from 22.11.2017 to 15.10.2018 allowing analysis of its efficacy and safety. Methods Data from 56 centres were analysed for adverse events (AE), progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS). Results 126 patients actually received at least 1 cycle durvalumab. Compared to the PACIFIC trial, the EAP population had more advanced stage and included “oligometastatic” stage IV patients and patients with autoimmune disease. PFS (20.1 mont…

IL-17 for therapy.

2017

The cytokine IL-17 is now a target for an array of therapeutic monoclonal antibodies supposed to treat a variety of inflammatory diseases. The forerunner Secukinumab, an IL-17A neutralizing antibody, is meanwhile approved as first-line treatments for moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, and as second-line treatment for psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Ixekizumab and Brodalumab, both also targeting the IL-17 pathway, were also recently approved by the FDA for plaque psoriasis. Using mice overexpressing IL-17A in a tissue of choice, we showed that the ectopic expression of this cytokine in keratinocytes resulted in a spontaneous and very strong form of psoriasis-like dermatitis…

Mapping an electron wave function by a local electron scattering probe

2015

A technique is developed which allows for the detailed mapping of the electronic wave function in two-dimensional electron gases with low-temperature mobilities up to $15\times {10}^{6}\;{\mathrm{cm}}^{2}\;{{\rm{V}}}^{-1}\;{{\rm{s}}}^{-1}$. Thin ('delta') layers of aluminium are placed into the regions where the electrons reside. This causes electron scattering which depends very locally on the amplitude of the electron wave function at the position of the Al δ-layer. By changing the distance of this layer from the interface we map the shape of the wave function perpendicular to the interface. Despite having a profound effect on the electron mobiliy, the δ-layers do not cause a widening of …

Optimization of care through film music: practices in Secondary Education

2015

Abstract: Stimulation of students with Attention Deficit Disorde…

Effect of high temperature annealing (T > 1650 °C) on the morphological and electrical properties of p-type implanted 4H-SiC layers

2019

This work reports on the effect of high temperature annealing on the electrical properties of p-type implanted 4H-SiC. Ion implantations of Aluminum (Al) at different energies (30-200 keV) were carried out to achieve 300 nm thick acceptor box profiles with a concentration of about 10(20) at/cm(3). The implanted samples were annealed at high temperatures (1675-1825 degrees C). Morphological analyses of the annealed samples revealed only a slight increase of the surface roughness RMS up to 1775 degrees C, while this increase becomes more significant at 1825 degrees C (RMS = 1.2 nm). Room temperature Hall measurements resulted in a hole concentration in the range 0.65-1.34 x 10(18)/cm(3) and m…

Sheet Bending Modelling for AA 5083 Aluminium Alloy

1995

An extensive investigation of the V- and U-die bending processes of AA 5083 aluminium alloy has been performed by means of the finite element method and the experimental tests. The predicted results, in terms of elastic springback and loads, were compared with the experimental ones in similar conditions. At a given punch stroke, the springback ratio K increases with the sheet thickness, and, at a constant sheet thickness, K increases with the punch stroke. The comparison between predicted and experimental K values shows an excellent agreement in all the ranges of punch stroke and sheet thickness investigated. A very good agreement between the predicted bending forces and the experimental on…
