Primordial odontogenic tumor : a systematic review

Background The primordial odontogenic tumor (POT) is a recently described benign entity with histopathological and immunohistochemical features suggesting its origin during early odontogenesis. Aim: To integrate the available data published on POT into a comprehensive analysis to better define its clinicopathological and molecular features. Abstract We have developed a new strategy in which 10 STR systems plus amelogenin were simultaneously amplified from telogen hair roots with maximal fragment sizes smaller than 270 base pairs. The multiplex includes six STR loci from the European standard set of loci (ESS) for DNA databases (D3S1358, D8S1179, D21S11, THO1, FGA and VWA) as well as four additional STR systems selected for their robustness and short amplicon sizes (D2S1338, D12S391, TPOX and D5S818). Due to the biotinylation of the reverse primers from five STRs systems, these PCR products can be separated from the other six amplicons after PCR amplification. A new STR typing strategy has been developed allowing the simultaneous amplification and subsequent analysis of 11 polymorphic systems with amplicon sizes smaller than 270 bp. Abstract Background The increasing number of samples from the biomedical genetic studies and the number of centers participating in the same involves increasing risk of mistakes in the different sample handling stages. We have evaluated the usefulness of the amelogenin test for quality control in sample identification. Methods Amelogenin test (frequently used in forensics) was undertaken on 1224 individuals participating in a biomedical study. Concordance between referred sex in the database and amelogenin test was estimated. Additional sex-error genetic detecting systems were developed.
