Purpose: The aim of the present in vitro study was to assess the effect of bleaching agents on eroded and sound enamel specimens. Materials and Methods: Enamel specimens prepared from human permanent anterior teeth were incubated with different bleaching agents containing active ingredients as 7.5 or 13.5% hydrogen peroxide or 35% carbamide peroxide, ranging in pH from 4.9 to 10.8. The effect of the tooth whitening agents on surface roughness was tested for sound enamel surfaces as well as for eroded enamel specimens. Introduction: The combination of carbamide peroxide, thiocyanate or enzymes such as amynoglucosidase or gluco-oxidase is able to reduce gingival inflammation. Abstract Human corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) was purified to homogeneity by application of three different chromatographic methods. After fractionation of pregnancy serum with ammonium sulfate the 80%-pellet was used for affinity chromatography based on tresyl activated Sepharose (Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden). The affinity eluate was injected into a Mono Q anion exchange column (Pharmacia). By using degenerate primers designed from the first 19 N-terminal amino acids of Lactobacillus plantarum p-coumaric acid decarboxylase (PDC), a 56-bp fragment was amplified from L. plantarum in PCRs and used as a probe for screening an L. plantarum genomic bank. Of the 2,880 clones in the genomic bank, one was isolated by colony hybridization and contained a 519-bp open reading frame (pdc gene) followed by a putative terminator structure. It has been observed that Ito cells in vitro undergo phenotypical changes ("activation") similar to those noted in vivo during the development of liver fibrosis. Because conflicting data have been published on the amount and different types of collagens synthesized by Ito cells in vitro, collagen biosynthesis was studied at different "activation" stages on both the protein and RNA levels. Immunoprecipitation of endogenously labeled collagen showed that freshly isolated ("resting") Ito cells synthesize mainly collagen type IV. The transfer of the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes from 30 to 5 degrees C was characterized by the sharp induction of a low molecular mass protein. This major cold shock protein has an isoelectric point at pH 5.1 and a molecular mass of about 18 kDa, as observed on two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) pattern. Its N-terminal sequence, obtained from the 2-DE spot, shared a complete sequence identity with a Listeria innocua non-heme iron-binding ferritin.
