Cu(II) complexes with a sulfonamide derived from benzoguanamine. Oxidative cleavage of DNA in the presence of H2O2 and ascorbate

2004

Reaction between benzoguanamine (2,4-diamino-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine) and 2-mesitylenesulfonyl chloride leads to formation of a sulfonamide able to form two mononuclear Cu(II) complexes with a CuL(2) stoichiometry. The local environment of the metal cation is a distorted octahedron, with two ligands and two solvent molecules; both complexes crystallize in the monoclinic structure, space group P2(1), with Z=2. In the presence of ascorbate/H(2)O(2,) the two complexes significantly cleavage double-strand pUC18 DNA plasmid. Both complexes exhibit more nuclease efficiency that the copper phenantroline complex. From scavenging reactive oxygen studies we conclude that the hydroxyl radical and a si…

Two copper complexes from two novel naphthalene-sulfonyl-triazole ligands: different nuclearity and different DNA binding and cleavage capabilities.

2013

[EN] Two novel naphthalene-sulfonyl-triazole ligands, 5-amino-N1-(naphthalen-3-ylsulfony1)-1,2,4-triazole (anstrz) and 3,5-diamino-N1-(naphthalen-3-ylsulfony1)-1,2,4-triazole (danstrz), purposely designed to interact with DNA, have been prepared for the first time and then fully characterized by H-1, C-13 NMR and IR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The crystal structures of two copper complexes of these derivatives, i.e. [Cu(anstrz)(4)(NO3)(2)]center dot 4CH(3)OH (1), mononuclear, and [Cu(danstrz)(mu-OAc)(2)](2)center dot 2(danstrz) (OAc = acetato) (2), dinuclear, have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. In both cases the ligand coordinates in a monod…

Selective recognition of neutral guests in an aqueous medium by a biomimetic calix[6]cryptamide receptor

2015

The design of artificial receptors that can efficiently work in water is a challenging research area. A possible biomimetic approach for the elaboration of such receptors consists of associating a hydrophobic cavity with a polar polyfunctional binding site. On this basis, a hydrophilic calix[6]cryptamide decorated with oligo(ethylene glycol) units (i.e. 8) was synthesized through an efficient [1 + 1] macrocyclization reaction as the key-step. The complexation of neutral molecules was evaluated by NMR spectroscopy through competition experiments either in apolar or aqueous media. In both media, host 8 can bind neutral species that display H-bonding acceptor and donor groups such as amides or…

Translocation versus cyclisation in radicals derived from N-3-alkenyl trichloroacetamides

2011

Under radical reaction conditions, two different and competitive reaction pathways were observed for N-(alpha-methylbenzyl)trichloroacetamides with a N-3-cyclohexenyl substituent: 1,4-hydrogen translocation and radical addition to a double bond. However, for radicals with an acyclic alkenyl side chain, the direct cyclisation process was exclusively observed. The dichotomy between translocation and direct radical cyclisation in these substrates has been theoretically studied using density functional theory (DFT) methods at the B3LYP/6-31G** computational level.

Biocompatible Hydrogelators Based on Bile Acid Ethyl Amides

2016

Four novel bile acid ethyl amides were synthetized using a well-known method. All the four compounds were characterized by IR, SEM, and X-ray crystal analyses. In addition, the cytotoxicity of the compounds was tested. Two of the prepared compounds formed organogels. Lithocholic acid derivative 1 formed hydrogels as 1% and 2% (w/v) in four different aqueous solutions. This is very intriguing regarding possible uses in biomedicine. peerReviewed

Oligonuclear Ferrocene Amides: Mixed‐Valent Peptides and Potential Redox‐Switchable Foldamers

2010

Trinuclear ferrocene tris-amides were synthesized from an Fmoc- or Boc-protected ferrocene amino acid, and hydrogen-bonded zigzag conformations were determined by NMR spectroscopy, molecular modelling, and X-ray diffraction. In these ordered secondary structures orientation of the individual amide dipole moments approximately in the same direction results in a macrodipole moment similar to that of α-helices composed of α-amino acids. Unlike ordinary α-amino acids, the building blocks in these ferrocene amides with defined secondary structure can be sequentially oxidized to mono-, di-, and trications. Singly and doubly charged mixed-valent cations were probed experimentally by Vis/NIR, param…

Structural studies of five novel bile acid-4-aminopyridine conjugates

2012

Abstract Synthesis and solid-state structural characterization of five bile acid amides of 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) are reported. Systematic crystallization experiments revealed a number of structural modifications and/or solvate/hydrate systems for these conjugates. Particularly, cholic acid conjugate exhibited five distinct structure modifications, including one anhydrous form, mono- and dihydrates, as well as ethanol and 2-butanol solvates. The obtained crystal forms were examined extensively with various analytical methods, including solid-state NMR, Raman, and IR spectroscopies, powder and single crystal X-ray diffraction methods, thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. …

Structural, Thermoanalytical and Molecular Modeling Studies on N-(3-hydroxypropyl) 3a,12a-Dihydroxy-5b-cholan-24-amide and Its Monohydrates

2007

The synthetic method for preparing N-(3-hydroxypropyl) 3 alpha,12 alpha-dihydroxy-5 beta-cholan-24-amide can lead to formation of at least three different crystal forms - an anhydrous compound and two monohydrates. The structural and thermal properties of these forms have been characterized by 13C-CP/MAS-NMR and IR spectroscopy, thermo- gravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry and by powder and single crystal x-ray crystallography. In addition, theoretical 13C-NMR chemical shift calculations were also performed for the anhydrous compound and for the first monohydrate, starting from single crystal structures and the structures of these species have now been verified. The first monohydra…

Effects of sequence, connectivity, and counter ions in new amide-linked Ru(tpy)2-Re(bpy) chromophores on redox chemistry and photophysics.

2013

New cationic metallo ligands L1-L3 based on bis(terpyridine) ruthenium(II) complexes decorated with differently substituted 2,2'-bipyridines attached via amide groups (5-NHCO-bpy, 4-CONH-bpy, 5-CONH-bpy) were prepared. Coordination of Re(I)Cl(CO)(3) fragments to the bpy unit gives the corresponding bimetallic Ru~Re complexes 1-3. Hydrogen bonds of the bridging amide groups to [PF(6)](-) counterions or to water molecules are observed both in the solid state and in solution. The impact of the amide orientation, the connecting site, and the coordination of counterions on redox and photophysical properties is explored. Both the metallo ligands L1-L3 and the bimetallic complexes 1-3 are emissive…
