Growth of ZnO crystals by vapour transport: Some ways to act on physical properties
2006
Nowadays, the growth of ZnO by vapor transport in silica ampoules is generally made in presence of graphite. As it has been already shown, this means that the growth process is carried out in presence of a Zn excess. In order to control that and act, as a consequence, on the physical properties of crystals we have performed a systematic study of the growth process in a wide range of Zn excess compositions using well defined experimental conditions. As a preliminary characterization, optical absorption and electrical properties have been analyzed at room temperature. The results show how some physical properties of as-grown ZnO crystals can be changed in a controlled way by an adequate combi…
Evidence in the formation of conjugated linoleic acids from thermally induced 9t12t linoleic acid: a study by gas chromatography and infrared spectro…
2009
Accepted version of article published in the journal: Chemistry and Physics of Lipids. Published version available on Science Direct: http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.chemphyslip.2009.07.002 Thermally induced isomerisation leading to the formation of conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) has been observed for the first time during the thermal treatment of 9t12t fatty acid triacylglycerol, and methyl ester. Fifteen microlitre portions of the triacylglycerol sample containing 9t12t fatty acid (trilinoelaidin) were placed in micro glass ampoules and sealed under nitrogen, then subjected to thermal treatment at 250 degrees C. The glass ampoules were removed at regular time intervals, cut open, and the co…
CdTe crystal growth process by the Bridgman method: numerical simulation
2001
Abstract Numerical simulation of the CdTe crystal growth process by the Bridgman method is made by using the commercial computational code FLUENT for the mathematical solution of the governing equations. To reduce computational effort, we have made use of a two level strategy. In the first level we have considered the whole system formed by the ampoule with the liquid–solid charge, the furnace, and the air between them. The heat transfer is assumed to occur by conduction, convection and radiation between the furnace and the ampoule, and only by conduction through the ampoule wall and the solid and liquid CdTe. In the second level we focus on the ampoule and its content, using the values of …
Heat transfer simulation in a vertical Bridgman CdTe growth configuration
1999
Modelling and numerical simulation of crystal growth processes have been shown to be powerful tools in order to understand the physical effects of different parameters on the growth conditions. In this study a finite difference/control volume technique for the study of heat transfer has been employed. This model takes into account the whole system: furnace temperature profile, air gap between furnace walls and ampoule, ampoule geometry, crucible coating if any, solid and liquid CdTe thermal properties, conduction, convection and radiation of heat and phase change. We have used the commercial code FLUENT for the numerical resolution that can be running on a personal computer. Results show th…
A numerical study of thermal conditions in the THM growth of HgTe
2002
A numerical simulation of the travelling heater method (THM) process in the growth of HgTe is carried out. The whole system (furnace, ampoule and charge) is taken into account in the frame of a quasi-steady-state model. The mass conservation condition for the solute in the liquid zone permits the determination of the rate of advance of the crystallisation isotherm as a function of the heater position. We claim to study the evolution of different magnitudes along the growth process, searching for the physical reasons which could be at the origin of defects in the form of thin layers observed in some growing experiences. To solve the governing equations of fluid flow, heat transfer and mass t…
Ba 6 P 12 N 17 O 9 Br 3 – A Column‐Type Phosphate Structure Solved from Single‐Nanocrystal Data Obtained by Automated Electron Diffraction Tomography
2011
Oxonitridophosphate Ba6P12N17O9Br3 was synthesized by heating a multicomponent mixture of BaBr2, BaS, phosphoryl triamide and thiophosphoryl triamide in an evacuated and sealed silica-glass ampoule to 750 °C. Ba6P12N17O9Br3 was obtained as the main product as a nanocrystalline powder. The crystal structure was determined ab initio on the basis of electron diffraction data acquired from a single needle-shaped nanocrystal by automated diffraction tomography. Ba6P12N17O9Br3 crystallizes in the hexagonal space group P63/m (no. 176) with unit cell parameters a = 14.654(19), c = 8.255(9) A and Z = 2. Its structure includes triangular, column-shaped anions of ∞1{(P12N17O9)9–}, which are built from…
Experiments on tritium generation and yield from lithium ceramics during neutron irradiation
2021
Abstract The vacuum extraction method with a mass spectrometry registration of tritium is presented in paper. It can provide a full-range analysis of gas phase composition in the chamber with samples under neutron irradiation. Lithium ceramics Li2TiO3 in the form of pebbles with lithium enrichment on 6Li isotope of 96% was examined. The paper shows the results of reactor experiments on study the extraction of tritium-containing molecules from lithium ceramics Li2TiO3 at various temperatures and reactor power levels at the WWR-K research reactor (Almaty, Kazakhstan). The time dependences of tritium yield from the ampoule with ceramics during reactor irradiation were obtained. Near-surface co…
Physicochemical compatibility of mixtures of dornase alfa and tobramycin containing nebulizer solutions
2008
Patients suffering from cystic fibrosis (CF) often need to inhale multiple doses of different nebulizable drugs per day. Patients attempt to shorten the time consuming administration procedure by mixing drug solutions/suspensions for simultaneous inhalation. The objective of this experimental study was to determine whether mixtures of the nebulizer solution dornase alfa (Pulmozyme) with tobramycin nebulizer solutions (TOBI and GERNEBCIN 80 mg) are physico-chemically compatible. Drug combinations were prepared by mixing the content of one respule Pulmozyme with either one respule TOBI or one ampoule GERNEBCIN 80 mg. Test solutions were stored at room temperature and exposed to light. Dornase…

Isomerization of 9c11t/10t12c CLA in Triacylglycerols
2010
Published version of an article in the journal: Lipids . The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11745-010-3452-x Isomers of conjugated linoleic acid from 7t9c through 12t14t can be induced by thermal treatment of triacylglycerol samples of 9c11t or 10t12c fatty acids in glass tubes. The formation of conjugated linoleic acids (CLAs) has been observed during thermal induction of the above-mentioned triacylglycerols at 250, 280 and 320A degrees C. The concentrations of isomers formed in the mixture varied depending on the temperature and duration of the heating experiments. The objective of this study was to find a suitable thermal induction temperatur…
