Montanacin-L and montanacin-K two previously non-described acetogenins from Annona montana twigs and leaves

2020

A phytochemical study on Annona montana twigs and leaves led to the isolation of eleven annonaceous acetogenins, including two previously non-described compounds, montanacin-L and montanacin-K. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analyses of spectroscopic data (IR, UV, HRTOFMS, EI-MS and 1H, 13C and 2D NMR). The ACGs montanacin-L, montanacin-K, montanacin-D and montanacin-E were evaluated for their toxicity against Spodoptera frugiperda Smith (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). Results revealed that montanacin-D and montanacin-K exhibited insecticide action. Fil: Ruiz Hidalgo, José. Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas. Inter- and intraspecific hypervariability in interstitial telomeric-like repeats (TTTAGGG)n in Anacyclus (Asteraceae).

2017

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Interstitial telomeric repeat (ITR) sites, consisting of tandem repeats of telomeric motifs localized at intrachromosomal sites, have been reported in a few unrelated organisms including plants. However, the causes for the occurrence of ITRs outside of the chromosomal termini are not fully understood. One possible explanation are the chromosomal rearrangements involving telomeric sites, which could also affect the location of other structural genome elements, such as the 45S rDNA. Taking advantage of the high dynamism in 45S rDNA loci previously found in Anacyclus (Asteraceae, Anthemideae), the occurrence and patterns of variation of ITRs were explored in this genus wit…

First report of Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus affecting zucchini squash in an important horticultural area of southern Italy

2016

Tomato leaf curl New Delhi virus (ToLCNDV) is a bipartite begomovirus (family Geminiviridae) which infects species in the families Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae (Padidam et al., 1995; Mizutani et al., 2011). Begomoviruses are transmitted by the whitefly Bemisia tabaci in a persistent manner (Rosen et al., 2015). In October 2015, severe symptoms not previously reported by growers in the horticultural area of the Province of Trapani (Sicily, Italy) were observed on zucchini squash (Cucurbita pepo) in open fields. The symptoms included yellow mosaic, severe leaf curling, swelling of veins of young leaves, shortening of internodes, roughness of the skin of fruit and reduced fruit size; the sympt…

High and uneven levels of 45S rDNA site-number variation across wild populations of a diploid plant genus (Anacyclus, Asteraceae)

2017

The nuclear genome harbours hundreds to several thousand copies of ribosomal DNA. Despite their essential role in cellular ribogenesis few studies have addressed intrapopulation, interpopulation and interspecific levels of rDNA variability in wild plants. Some studies have assessed the extent of rDNA variation at the sequence and copy-number level with large sampling in several species. However, comparable studies on rDNA site number variation in plants, assessed with extensive hierarchical sampling at several levels (individuals, populations, species) are lacking. In exploring the possible causes for ribosomal loci dynamism, we have used the diploid genus Anacyclus (Asteraceae) as a suitab…

Expression of miR159 Is Altered in Tomato Plants Undergoing Drought Stress.

2019

In a scenario of global climate change, water scarcity is a major threat for agriculture, severely limiting crop yields. Therefore, alternatives are urgently needed for improving plant adaptation to drought stress. Among them, gene expression reprogramming by microRNAs (miRNAs) might offer a biotechnologically sound strategy. Drought-responsive miRNAs have been reported in many plant species, and some of them are known to participate in complex regulatory networks via their regulation of transcription factors involved in water stress signaling. We explored the role of miR159 in the response of Solanum lycopersicum Mill. plants to drought stress by analyzing the expression of sly-miR159 and …

Evolutionary diversification of type-2 HDAC structure, function and regulation in Nicotiana tabacum

2018

Ministère de l'Education Nationale et de la Recherche ; Conseil Régional de Bourgogne (PARI AGRALE8) ; Association pour la Recherche sur les Nicotianacées ; Conseil Régional de Bourgogne; International audience; Type-2 HDACs (HD2s) are plant-specific histone deacetylases that play diverse roles during development and in responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study we characterized the six tobacco genes encoding HD2s that mainly differ by the presence or the absence of a typical zinc finger in their C-terminal part. Of particular interest, these HD2 genes exhibit a highly conserved intron/exon structure. We then further investigated the phylogenetic relationships among the HD2 gen…

Oxylipin mediated stress response of a miraculin-like protease inhibitor in Hexanoic acid primed eggplant plants infested by Colorado potato beetle

2017

Insect-plant interactions are governed by a complex equilibrium between the mechanisms through which plant recognize insect attack and orchestrate downstream signaling events that trigger plant defense responses, and the mechanisms by which insects overcome plant defenses. Due to this tight and dynamic interplay, insight into the nature of the plant defense response can be gained by analyzing changes in the insect herbivores digestive system upon plant feeding. In this work we have identified a Solanum melongena miraculin-like protease inhibitor in the midgut juice of Colorado potato larvae feeding on eggplant plants treated with the natural inducer of plant defenses hexanoic acid. We analy…

Proteomic insights into the immune response of the Colorado potato beetle larvae challenged with Bacillus thuringiensis.

2019

Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxins constitute effective, environmentally safe biopesticides. Nevertheless, insects' tolerance to Bt is influenced by environmental factors affecting immunity. To understand larval immune response in the devastating coleopteran insect pest Colorado potato beetle (CPB), we undertook a proteomic analysis of hemolymph of non-treated control larvae and larvae consuming non-lethal doses of spore-crystal mixtures containing the coleopteran-active Cry3Aa toxin. Results revealed lower amount of proteins involved in insect growth and higher amount of immune response-related proteins in challenged insects, sustaining the larval weight loss observed. Additionally, we fou…
