Numerical solution of a class of nonlinear boundary value problems for analytic functions

1982

We analyse a numerical method for solving a nonlinear parameter-dependent boundary value problem for an analytic function on an annulus. The analytic function to be determined is expanded into its Laurent series. For the expansion coefficients we obtain an operator equation exhibiting bifurcation from a simple eigenvalue. We introduce a Galerkin approximation and analyse its convergence. A prominent problem falling into the class treated here is the computation of gravity waves of permanent type in a fluid. We present numerical examples for this case.

A note on the analytic solutions of the Camassa-Holm equation

2005

Abstract In this Note we are concerned with the well-posedness of the Camassa–Holm equation in analytic function spaces. Using the Abstract Cauchy–Kowalewski Theorem we prove that the Camassa–Holm equation admits, locally in time, a unique analytic solution. Moreover, if the initial data is real analytic, belongs to H s ( R ) with s > 3 / 2 , ‖ u 0 ‖ L 1 ∞ and u 0 − u 0 x x does not change sign, we prove that the solution stays analytic globally in time. Mode-superposition correction method for deterministic and stochastic analysis of structural systems

2001

The role played by the modal analysis in the framework of structural dynamics is fundamental from both deterministic and stochastic point of view. However the accuracy obtained by means of the classical modal analysis is not always satisfactory. Therefore it is clear the importance of methods able to correct the modal response in such a way to obtain the required accuracy. Many methods have been proposed in the last years but they are meaningful only when the forcing function is expressed by an analytical function. Moreover in stochastic analysis they fail for white noise excitation. In the paper a method able to give a very accurate response for both deterministic and stochastic input is p…

High-fidelity analysis of multilayered shells with cut-outs via the discontinuous Galerkin method

2021

Abstract A novel numerical method for the analysis of multilayered shells with cut-outs is presented. In the proposed approach, the shell geometry is represented via either analytical functions or NURBS parametrizations , while generally-shaped cut-outs are defined implicitly within the shell modelling domain via a level set function . The multilayered shell problem is addressed via the Equivalent-Single-Layer approach whereby high-order polynomial functions are employed to approximate the covariant components of the displacement field throughout the shell thickness. The shell governing equations are then derived from the Principle of Virtual Displacements of three-dimensional elasticity an…

Lipschitz-type conditions on homogeneous Banach spaces of analytic functions

2017

Abstract In this paper we deal with Banach spaces of analytic functions X defined on the unit disk satisfying that R t f ∈ X for any t > 0 and f ∈ X , where R t f ( z ) = f ( e i t z ) . We study the space of functions in X such that ‖ P r ( D f ) ‖ X = O ( ω ( 1 − r ) 1 − r ) , r → 1 − where D f ( z ) = ∑ n = 0 ∞ ( n + 1 ) a n z n and ω is a continuous and non-decreasing weight satisfying certain mild assumptions. The space under consideration is shown to coincide with the subspace of functions in X satisfying any of the following conditions: (a) ‖ R t f − f ‖ X = O ( ω ( t ) ) , (b) ‖ P r f − f ‖ X = O ( ω ( 1 − r ) ) , (c) ‖ Δ n f ‖ X = O ( ω ( 2 − n ) ) , or (d) ‖ f − s n f ‖ X = O ( ω …

Construction of canonical coordinates for exponential Lie groups

2009

Given an exponential Lie group G, we show that the constructions of B. Currey, 1992, go through for a less restrictive choice of the Jordan-Holder basis. Thus we obtain a stratification of g * into G-invariant algebraic subsets, and for each such subset Ω, an explicit cross-section Σ C Ω for coadjoint orbits in Ω, so that each pair (Ω, Σ) behaves predictably under the associated restriction maps on g * . The cross-section mapping σ: Ω → Σ is explicitly shown to be real analytic. The associated Vergne polarizations are not necessarily real even in the nilpotent case, and vary rationally with ∈ Ω. For each Ω, algebras e 0 (Ω) and e 1 (Ω) of polarized and quantizable functions, respectively, a…

Interpolating sequences on uniform algebras

2009

Abstract We consider the problem of whether a given interpolating sequence for a uniform algebra yields linear interpolation. A positive answer is obtained when we deal with dual uniform algebras. Further we prove that if the Carleson generalized condition is sufficient for a sequence to be interpolating on the algebra of bounded analytic functions on the unit ball of c 0 , then it is sufficient for any dual uniform algebra.

Homomorphisms between Algebras of Holomorphic Functions

2014

For two complex Banach spaces X and Y, in this paper, we study the generalized spectrum M-b(X,Y) of all nonzero algebra homomorphisms from H-b(X), the algebra of all bounded type entire functions on X into H-b(Y). We endow M-b(X,Y) with a structure of Riemann domain over L(X*,Y*) whenever.. is symmetrically regular. The size of the fibers is also studied. Following the philosophy of ( Aron et al., 1991), this is a step to study the set M-b,M-infinity (X,B-Y) of all nonzero algebra homomorphisms from Hb(b) (X) into H-infinity (B-Y) of bounded holomorphic functions on the open unit ball of Y and M-infinity(B-X,B-Y) of all nonzero algebra homomorphisms from H-infinity(B-X) into H infinity (B-Y…
