Phase diagrams are contributed for polymer mixture systems in solution. One polymer has proton-acceptor character and the other has growing proton-donor nature, which is reflected in the phase diagrams. Usually, these diagrams are obtained from size-exclusion chromatographic (SEC) measurements. A totally novel application, which is exposed in this report, is the construction of the phase diagram from the viscometric experiments of polymer mixtures. Abstract A further extension of the efficient synthetic methodology described in Part 1, to the aromatic bis-diazo scaffold of Black Hole Quencher-2 dye is presented. Bioconjugatable derivatives bearing either azido, terminal alkyne, or maleimide reactive group were easily obtained as well as the free-phenol form of BlackBerry® Quencher 650 (BBQ-650®) initially developed by Berry & Associates, Inc. Application of Molecular Imprinted Polymers for Selective Solid Phase Extraction of Bisphenol A

Abstract Selective molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) with bisphenol A as template were synthesized using the non-covalent imprinting approach. MIPs were prepared using thermally initiated polymerization with 1,1’-azobis(cyclohexanecarbonitryle) (ACHN) as initiator and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) as a cross-linking agent. The tested functional monomers included methacrylic acid, acrylamide, and 4-vinylpyridine. Synthesis of cyanoacetic acid by carbon dioxide and electrogenerated acetonitrile anion in undivided cells equipped with sacrificial anodes

The electrochemical synthesis of cyanoacetic acid was performed by cathodic reduction of tetraalkylammonium salts (R4NX) in acetonitrile in undivided cells equipped with sacrificial anodes with concomitant or subsequent addition of carbon dioxide. These syntheses avoid the use of dangerous reagents, yield cyanoacetic acid in moderate faradic yields and confirm that the cathodic reduction of tetraalkylammonium salts in the presence of acetonitrile leads to the formation of the anion CNCH2-.

Anodic stripping voltammetric determination of heavy metals in solutions containing humic acids

Various simultaneous effects of humic acids on the current and potential of differential pulse anodic stripping peaks of copper, lead, cadmium and zinc in weakly alkaline and acidic (pH 2) solutions have been investigated and interpreted with regard to metal complexation and the adsorption of humic acid on the mercury electrode. The applicability of the standard additions method for metal quantitation and the experimental conditions for UV-photolysis with a high-pressure mercury lamp have been examined in model as well as real water samples.

Effect of ethylenediamine on the anodic stripping voltammetric determination of heavy metals in the presence of humic acid

Ligand competition coupled with differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry has been investigated for the determination of copper, lead and cadmium. Ethylenediamine displaces humic acid in its metal complexes forming kinetically labile compounds. It also eliminates interferences associated with the oxidation of copper. This enhances the sensitivity of the determination of the metals over a wide range of humic acid concentration (up to 30 mg/l). The procedure has been applied to the determination of heavy metals in a real water sample.

Surface initiated molecularly imprinted polymer films: a new approach in chiral capillary electrochromatography

A new generation of imprinted composite particles was tested as capillary electrochromatography stationary phase. Silica particles characterised by a well defined particle size (10 µm diameter), shape and pore system (1000 A) were modified with an azoinitiator and subsequently used to graft molecularly imprinted polymers targeted to bind L-phenylalanine anilide. Poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate based monolithic capillary columns for the analysis of polar small solutes by capillary electrochromatography

Monolithic stationary phases based on poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylates for capillary electrochromatography were developed. Several poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylates (Mn 250, 575, and 700) were used as single monomers and the resulting columns were carefully compared. Methanol and ethyl ether were selected as porogenic solvents, and in all cases ultraviolet radiation was selected as initiation method to prepare polymeric monoliths. Life-time studies with capillary electrochromatography columns operated under different conditions.

A test system has been established to permit the monitoring of the life-time performance of several reversed- phase capillary electrochromatography (CEC) columns. The retention factors, k(cec), peak symmetry coefficients, lambda(sym), and column efficiencies, N, of three neutral n-alkylbenzene analytes, namely ethyl-, n-butyl- and n-pentylbenzenes, were determined for Hypersil 3 microm n-octylsilica and n-octadecylsilica packed into CEC capillary columns of 100 microm I.D., with a packed length of 250 mm, and a total length of 335 mm.
