Unexplored nucleophilic ring opening of aziridines.
2010
The reactivity of dianions of carboxylic acids towards aziridines has been studied. Although, a similar reactivity to that of enolates from ketones, esters or amides has been observed, the method directly yields g-aminoacids in one step. The method is complementary of previous results of enenediolate reactivity with other electrophiles. A comparative study with the reactivity of this enediolates with epoxides is included.
An Energy-Autonomous Wireless Sensor with Simultaneous Energy Harvesting and Ambient Light Sensing
2021
Wireless sensor nodes (WSNs) are generally powered by batteries, which results in a substantial limitation to the places where the nodes can be installed, to the maximum number of deployable devices, and to the node lifetime. To meet the demand for Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications that require a large number of maintenance-free, low cost, wireless sensor nodes, this paper proposes a wireless sensor platform with a single photovoltaic transducer that performs the dual role of harvesting energy and sensing ambient light. This dual use allows even smaller and cheaper nodes that do not require any form of supporting external power, with a reduced component count. The device implements off-…
Up-conversion and Photoluminescence in Er3+ Single Crystal MgAl-spinel
2015
Abstract Traditional and up-conversion luminescence of MgAl 2 O 4 single crystal doped with erbium ions obtained by the Verneuil method has been investigated. The time resolved spectral measurements of the green and red up-conversion luminescence bands show that a build-up part is present in the up-conversion luminescence kinetics. This means that energy transfer process is involved in the creation of the luminescence. Considering rather small concentration of Er 3+ in the material (0.12 mass %), the expected up-conversion mechanism should be excited state absorption since the average distance between erbium ions is high. The above-mentioned considerations suggest that clustering of the act…
Window-Based Energy Selecting X-ray Imaging and Charge Sharing in Cadmium Zinc Telluride Linear Array Detectors for Contaminant Detection
2023
The spectroscopic and imaging performance of energy-resolved photon counting detectors, based on new sub-millimetre boron oxide encapsulated vertical Bridgman cadmium zinc telluride linear arrays, are presented in this work. The activities are in the framework of the AVATAR X project, planning the development of X-ray scanners for contaminant detection in food industry. The detectors, characterized by high spatial (250 µm) and energy (<3 keV) resolution, allow spectral X-ray imaging with interesting image quality improvements. The effects of charge sharing and energy-resolved techniques on contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) enhancements are investigated. The benefits of a new energy-resolved …
Classification of olive leaves and pulp extracts by comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography of polyphenolic fingerprints.
2019
Abstract The development of a new comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatographic method is described, to obtain the profiles of polyphenolic compounds present in olive (Olea europaea L.) leaves and pulps from different genetic origin. Optimisation of the stationary phase nature, particle size, column length and internal diameter, as well as other separation conditions, was performed. Along the study, three stationary phases (C18, PFP and phenyl) in the first dimension (1D), and five (C18, amide, cyano, phenyl and PFP) in the second dimension (2D) were combined to obtain the maximal number of resolved peaks. The optimised method successfully characterised the presence of 26 and 29 comm…
Partition of volatile compounds in pea globulin–maltodextrin aqueous two-phase system
2014
International audience; This study is based on the assumption that the off-flavour of pea proteins might be decreased using the retention of volatile compounds by a mixture with another biopolymer. The partition of volatile compounds in an aqueous system containing pea protein and maltodextrins was followed under thermodynamic incompatibility conditions. Firstly, the phase diagram of the system was established. Then, the partition of aroma compounds between the phase rich in protein and the phase rich in maltodextrin was measured by SPME–GC–MS. There was a transfer of volatile compounds during phase separation. Variations of pH were also used to vary the retention of volatile compounds by p…
Candida antarctica Lipase A-Based Enantiorecognition of a Highly Strained 4-Dibenzocyclooctynol (DIBO) Used for PET Imaging
2020
The enantiomers of aromatic 4-dibenzocyclooctynol (DIBO), used for radiolabeling and subsequent conjugation of biomolecules to form radioligands for positron emission tomography (PET), were separated by kinetic resolution using lipase A from Candida antarctica (CAL-A). In optimized conditions, (R)-DIBO [(R)-1, ee 95%] and its acetylated (S)-ester [(S)-2, ee 96%] were isolated. In silico docking results explained the ability of CAL-A to differentiate the enantiomers of DIBO and to accommodate various acyl donors. Anhydrous MgCl2 was used for binding water from the reaction medium and, thus, for obtaining higher conversion by preventing hydrolysis of the product (S)-2 into the starting materi…
Control of Growth and Persistence of Listeria monocytogenes and β-Lactam-Resistant Escherichia coli by Thymol in Food Processing Settings
2020
The main objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of thymol in controlling environmental contamination in food processing facilities. The effect of thymol was tested as an agent to prevent planktonic and bacterial biofilm growth of twenty-five Listeria monocytogenes isolates from a variety of foods and five Escherichia coli isolates from a farm. The E. coli isolates were positive for extended spectrum &beta
Hairy Garlic (Allium subhirsutum) from Sicily (Italy): LC-DAD-MSn Analysis of Secondary Metabolites and In Vitro Biological Properties
2020
Allium subhirsutum, known as hairy garlic, is a bulbous plant widespread in the Mediterranean area and locally used as a food and spice. In the present study, the chemical profile of the ethanolic extracts from bulbs (BE) and aerial parts (APE) were analyzed by HPLC-ESI-MSn, and antioxidant properties were evaluated by DPPH, ABTS and TEAC assays. The traditional use in the diet, and the well documented biological activity of Allium species suggest a potential as a new nutraceutical. For this reason, the potential usefulness of this food can be considered in the treatment and prevention of degenerative Alzheimer disease. For this reason, acetylcholinesterase inhibitory property was investiga…
Structural analysis, phase stability and electrochemical characterization of Nb doped BaCe0.9Y0.1O3−x electrolyte for IT-SOFCs
2012
Abstract To improve the chemical stability of high temperature proton conductors based on barium cerate, electrolyte powders doped with different amounts of niobium were synthesized by the citrate–nitrate auto-combustion method. Pure single phases of BaCe 0.9− x Nb x Y 0.1 O 3− x (BCYN, 0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.12) were obtained by thermal treatment at 1000 °C. Sintering at 1450 °C for 10 h produced dense pellets. X-ray absorption spectroscopy allowed to define the dopant ion insertion site and the co-dopant valency. Treatments in pure CO 2 atmosphere at 700 °C for 3 h and subsequent XRD analysis were carried out to probe the chemical stability of the produced electrolytes. The influence of the prese…
