Medusbišu, tāpat kā citu apputeksnētāju, skaita samazināšanās Eiropā un pasaulē kopumā saistāma t.sk. ar parazitārām slimībām. Šī pētījuma mērķis ir izpētīt Rietumu medusbišu (Apis mellifera L.) būtiskāko parazītu (Nosema spp., Varroa destructor) izplatību un sastopamību ietekmējošos faktorus Latvijā. Laikā no 2012.-2013. gadam ievākti bišu paraugi no 274 dravām, lai noteiktu to invāzijas slimību sastopamību Latvijas teritorijā. Pētījumā konstatēta Nosema spp. prevalence 49,5% un vidējā intensitāte 8,5x105 sporas uz vienu biti. Savukārt V. destructor prevalence bija 52,3% un vidējā intensitāte 3,0 ērces uz 100 bitēm. Bakalaura darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 36 lapām. Tas satur 21 attēlu, 3 tabulas un 28 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis: novērtēt, kā grupēšanas uztveres principi un nogurums ietekmē raksturīgās meklēšanas acu kustības secīgas meklēšanas uzdevumos. Eksperimenta dalībnieki: 15 dalībnieki vecumā no 20 – 26 gadiem. Metode: Dalībnieku uzdevums bija atrast horizontāli vienā rindā 2 vai 3 blakus esošus simbolus, kuriem bija vienādos virzienos vērsts atvērums. Fundamento: El objetivo del presente artículo es valorar la eficacia clínica, medida en términos de ganancia de inserción clínica, de dos membranas reabsorbibles, frente a un control positivo, membrana no reabsorbible, en el tratamiento de defectos intraóseos de 2-3 paredes. Influence of the methodology of inoculation in the performance of air-breathing microbial fuel cells

In this work, four air-breathing microbial fuel cells (AB-MFC) were operated for 1 month in order to determine if the methodology of inoculation affects the steady-state performance of this type of MFCs. For this purpose, anaerobic and aerobic sludge were fed to two identical AB-MFCs without any external carbon source into a tight sealed environment during the first three days of start-up. For comparison purposes, other two AB-MFCs were operated mixing the initial sludge and an amount of sodium acetate as substrate. Most insects maintain associations with microbes that shape their ecology and evolution. Such symbioses have important applied implications when the associated insects are pests or vectors of disease. The squash bug, Anasa tristis (Coreoidea: Coreidae), is a significant pest of human agriculture in its own right and also causes damage to crops due to its capacity to transmit a bacterial plant pathogen. Here, we demonstrate that complete understanding of these insects requires consideration of their association with bacterial symbionts in the family Burkholderiaceae. Fungal infections continue to be a major problem in the management of immunocompromised patients. Despite its formidable toxicity and treatment failures, amphotericin B is still the drug of choice for most of these infections. One strategy for reducing the toxicity of amphotericin B and thus permitting administration of higher doses is that of using less toxic formulations. Entrapping amphotericin B into liposomes or binding it to other substances reduces its toxicity to host cells, whereas the selective binding of amphotericin B to ergosterol preserves its toxicity to fungal cells. In this paper we investigated if their early infection in the lungs represents a plausible alternative to cross-priming with mycobacterial antigens acquired from infected macrophages.
