Developing professional identity through group experiential learning: A Group-Analytic experiential training approach for use with postgraduate clini…

2019

From a Group-Analytic perspective, the group is conceived of as an organic entity. The convenor takes up a less intrusive and non-directive role in comparison to a traditional sem…

Managing stress during the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic and beyond: Reappraisal and mindset approaches

2020

The novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic is a global public health crisis of a scale not previously experienced in modern times (Kickbusch et al., 2020). Governmental ‘lockdown’ measures aimed at minimizing virus transmission including ‘stay at home’ orders, closure of businesses and places of congregation, and travel restrictions have had a substantive societal impact that permeates almost every facet of daily life (Gostin & Wiley, 2020; Shanafelt, Ripp, & Trockel, 2020). These widespread changes represent considerable sources of stress in the population and will have deleterious effects on mental and physical health going forward. As nations begin to emerge from ‘lockdown’, …

Principles of Learner Learning-Centred Didactic in the Context of Technology-Enhanced Learning

2018

The article seeks to update views on didactic practices in the rapidly changing field of education and addresses the timely problem of paradigm transition when shifts in deliberate education have been imposed upon by at least three factors: increased access to digital technologies in the learners’ everyday life and teaching-learning; reform of educational content towards the acquisition of competencies valid for the twenty-first-century social developments; and, in response to these, appropriate changes in teachers’ professional competence to maintain a learner’s learning-centred didactic with learners who, if compared to those of 25 years before, cooperate and communicate differently, are …

Digital Literacy

2020

Digital literacy is a widely used concept that has become pluralistic, often avoiding a clear definition of what digital literacy actually means. However, acquiring digital literacy is still a global issue. Given the vast potential of digital technology as it grows and evolves, it is essential to understand what the concept of digital literacy is and how it is applied in today's context. The aim of the study was twofold: (a) to analyse the recent literature available in the EBSCO database regarding definitions of digital literacy; and (b) to provide an overview of the concept of digital literacy and related skills. Using a systematic literature review, 45 academic papers were selected, of w…

Smart Pedagogy for Technology-Enhanced Learning

2018

The progress of technology has raised challenges to the educational environment, so it is necessary to search for answers to the questions: How can one teach better? How can one scaffold the student in the learning process? What kind of competencies should be developed? What competencies do teachers need? What kind of technology should be used or not be used? This chapter analyses the role of pedagogy for education and outlines the risks for cognitive development that may result from the introduction of technology without an understanding of pedagogical principles. These risks are defined as a centrifugal effect that can be mitigated by integrating technology into the educational process us…

Writing as a Learning Tool: An Introduction

2001

This introductory chapter begins with a brief historical account of the writing-to-learn movement, emphasising especially the significance of the cognitive revolution for the development of both teaming research and writing research. The next section considers those theories of the writing process which have had the most profound impact on writing-to-learn, theories of writing as problem solving. Further on, theories and views of learning are discussed as essential determinants of approaches to writing as a learning tool. it is emphasised that current constructivist and social constructivist views imply the use of writing activities requiring transformations of knowledge, social interaction…
