Random walk approach to the analytic solution of random systems with multiplicative noise—The Anderson localization problem

2006

We discuss here in detail a new analytical random walk approach to calculating the phase-diagram for spatially extended systems with multiplicative noise. We use the Anderson localization problem as an example. The transition from delocalized to localized states is treated as a generalized diffusion with a noise-induced first-order phase transition. The generalized diffusion manifests itself in the divergence of averages of wavefunctions (correlators). This divergence is controlled by the Lyapunov exponent $\gamma$, which is the inverse of the localization length, $\xi=1/\gamma$. The appearance of the generalized diffusion arises due to the instability of a fundamental mode corresponding to…

Anderson localization problem: An exact solution for 2-D anisotropic systems

2007

Our previous results [J.Phys.: Condens. Matter 14 (2002) 13777] dealing with the analytical solution of the two-dimensional (2-D) Anderson localization problem due to disorder is generalized for anisotropic systems (two different hopping matrix elements in transverse directions). We discuss the mathematical nature of the metal-insulator phase transition which occurs in the 2-D case, in contrast to the 1-D case, where such a phase transition does not occur. In anisotropic systems two localization lengths arise instead of one length only.

A many-body approach to transport in quantum systems : From the transient regime to the stationary state

2022

We review one of the most versatile theoretical approaches to the study of time-dependent correlated quantum transport in nano-systems: the non-equilibrium Green's function (NEGF) formalism. Within this formalism, one can treat, on the same footing, inter-particle interactions, external drives and/or perturbations, and coupling to baths with a (piece-wise) continuum set of degrees of freedom. After a historical overview on the theory of transport in quantum systems, we present a modern introduction of the NEGF approach to quantum transport. We discuss the inclusion of inter-particle interactions using diagrammatic techniques, and the use of the so-called embedding and inbedding techniques w…

Antropologia filosòfica i literatura: G. Anders interpreta S. Beckett

2004

Abstract: This paper is intended to stress the importance of studying the relationship between philosophy and literature, or, to put it more precisely, between philosophical anthropology and contemporary dramaturgy. To this purpose, it analyses a deep text that has gone largely unnoticed up to now, namely the interpretation, elaborated in 1955 by the writer and thinker Günther Anders, of one of the most radical and innovative revolutions in contemporary drama: Samuel Beckett’s En attendant Godot (Waiting for Godot). In addition to introducing the life and work of Anders’s, this paper presents the different sections of the central chapter of his most important work, Die Antiquierheit des Men…

Terror, escepticismo e individuo según Sloterdijk

2003

Dip Phenomenon in High-Curved Turbulent Flows and Application of Entropy Theory

2018

The estimation of velocity profile in turbulent open channels is a difficult task due to the significant effects of the secondary flow. The present paper investigates the mechanism of the velocity-dip phenomenon, whereby the location of the maximum velocity appears to be below the free surface. Previous studies conducted in straight channels relate the mechanism of the velocity-dip phenomenon to secondary flow induced by anisotropy of turbulence. This work focuses on high-curved channels where the secondary motion, which is also induced by the channel’s curvature, evolves along the bend. The width-to-depth ratio, B/h, is one of the most important parameters that are affecting the secondary …

From orientational glasses to structural glasses: What computer simulations have contributed to understand experiments

2002

Abstract Orientational glasses, produced by random dilution of molecular crystals, exhibit a freezing transition of the quadrupole moments. Monte Carlo simulations of lattice models (generalization of the Edwards–Anderson spin glass model) have been used to elucidate this behavior. While short range models exhibit a static glass transition at zero temperature only, the infinite range Potts glass exhibits a transition where a glass order parameter appears discontinuously. At higher temperature, a dynamical transition occurs, described by mode-coupling theory (MCT). MCT has also been tested by Monte Carlo and molecular dynamics simulations of coarse-grained models of glass-forming polymers. W…

FEASTING WITH THE OUTLANDER

2015

While tv programs tend to acclaim cooks, by testing their ability in showcookings, challenging their skills on special talent shows and even by inviting them as opinion leaders commenting on the current affairs, cinema still prefers celebrating conviviality. Showing people having a meal together around the table involves celebrating eating as a basic transformative act, more or less orchestrated by a cook who contributes to create actual experiences by means of his services. Through them, he reconstitutes the existence of individuals, of communities or even of entire countries. This means that, in principle, the mission of the cooks on most movies operates on a level at the same time broade…
