IMPAIRMENT OF DIASTOLIC FUNCTION DURING SHORT-TERM ANTHRACYCLINE CHEMOTHERAPY

1995

International audience; Abstract: Objective-To assess the early changes in left ventricular diastolic and systolic function due to anthracycline treatment. Design-A prospective study of cardiac function by radionuclide angiography in adults before and one month after the end of anthracycline treatment. Patients-60 patients without cardiac disease treated with chemotherapy containing anthracycline. Methods-Cardiac function was assessed by radionuclide measurement throughout treatment. Ejection fraction, peak ejection rate, time to peak ejection rate, filling rate, and time to peak filling rate were measured before and after treatment, To normalise radionuclide measurements of the left ventri…

FABC: Retinal Vessel Segmentation Using AdaBoost

2010

This paper presents a method for automated vessel segmentation in retinal images. For each pixel in the field of view of the image, a 41-D feature vector is constructed, encoding information on the local intensity structure, spatial properties, and geometry at multiple scales. An AdaBoost classifier is trained on 789 914 gold standard examples of vessel and nonvessel pixels, then used for classifying previously unseen images. The algorithm was tested on the public digital retinal images for vessel extraction (DRIVE) set, frequently used in the literature and consisting of 40 manually labeled images with gold standard. Results were compared experimentally with those of eight algorithms as we…

Endovascular Aneurysm Repair

2002

Background — The purpose of the present study was to systematically analyze the histopathologic organization processes in excluded aneurysms after endovascular stenting and to develop a noninvasive monitoring method for these processes using MRI. Methods and Results — In 36 mongrel dogs, autologous aortic aneurysms were created. Endovascular treatment was performed using covered stents. Follow-up was after 1 week, 6 weeks, and 6 months. MRI was performed with T 2 -weighted turbo-spin-echo sequences and T 1 -weighted spin-echo sequences and was repeated after contrast bolus with gadolinium. Histopathologic findings were correlated to signal intensities (SIs) of MRI images. SIs of distinct a…

Comparison of coronary artery flow impairment in diabetic and ipertensive patients with stable microvascular angina

2014

OBJECTIVE: Stable microvascular angina (SMVA) describes patients with angina, findings compatible with myocardial ischemia and normal coronary angiograms. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of diabetes on the coronary microcirculation troughs angiography indexes (TIMI Frame Count, Myocardial Blush Grade, Total Myocardial Blush Score) and a new index:TotalTIMI Frame Count (TTFC). PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study population included 310 patients with SMVA that we split into two populations: diabetic-non hypertensive (164 patients) and non-diabetichypertensive (146 patients). We calculated, on angiographic images of each patient, TIMI Frame Count (TFC), Myocardial Blush Grade (MBG…

Coronary artery anomalies: incidence, pathophysiology, clinical relevance and role of diagnostic imaging

2006

Conventional coronary angiography is the gold standard for the diagnosis of coronary artery anomalies. Coronary anomalies are relatively rare findings in patients undergoing conventional coronary angiography for suspected obstructive coronary artery disease. Recently, the increasing performance of diagnostic techniques, such as electron beam tomography (EBT), magnetic resonance (MR) and, more recently, multislice computed tomography (MSCT), has enabled their application to cardiac imaging. MSCT, in particular, has a prominent role in coronary imaging due to its spatial and temporal resolution and three-dimensional capabilities. We report the incidence and pathophysiology of coronary artery …

ECG-gated multislice computed tomography angiography as a comprehensive non-invasive imaging tool in patient with aortic coarctation

2021

We describe a case of a 52-year-old-woman with aortic coarctation demonstrated by means of 40-slice MSCT angiography. Based on the information extracted from MSCT it was possible to display the anatomical configuration of the disease, the thoraco-abdominal collateral pathways. The best therapeutic approach was established on the basis of MSCT findings. MSCT is a reliable and comprehensive tool for the assessment of adult patients with aortic coarctation. Atypical posterior circulation strokes: a case-based review of rare anatomical variations involved

2021

The circle of Willis is a very important vascular mechanism of protecting against cerebral ischemia, especially when circulation within the main arteries irrigating the brain is somehow impeded. As result of congenital malformation arising early in embryonic development, the fetal-type posterior circle of Willis remains as such during the rest of one's life. Consequently, the posterior cerebral artery (PCA) becomes a branch of the internal carotid artery (ICA), rather than of the basilar artery (BA). Furthermore, the rest of collateral circulation, between the anterior and the posterior regions of the brain, is also negatively affected (e.g., leptomeningeal vessels). The anatomical variant …

Choledochocele imaged with magnetic resonance cholangiography.

2000

Choledochal cysts are rare developmental malformations of the biliary tree. Percutaneous and endoscopic ultrasound, as well as endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, are recommended diagnostic tools. Magnetic resonance cholangiography may also contribute to the workup and treatment plan of patients with choledochal cysts. We report a 25-yr-old white woman with episodic nausea and moderate epigastric dyscomfort. Magnetic resonance cholangiography showed a rather spherical, cyst-like, fluid-filled structure in continuity with the prepapillary segment of the common bile duct, thus making a choledochocele (type III choledochal cyst) likely. The patient was treated by endoscopic sphinct…

Numerical Simulations of the Hydrodynamics of the Abdominal Aorta Aneurysm (AAA) Using a Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics Code with Deformable Wall Pr…

2018

We present some preliminary results of the numerical simulations of the hydrodynamic characteristics of an abdominal aorta aneurysm (AAA) patient specific test case. Images of the AAA lumen have been acquired in 10 discrete time-steps through a stabilized cardiac cycle by electrocardiogram-gated computer tomography angiography, and are used to approximate the in vivo, time dependent kinematic fields of the (internal) arterial wall. The flow field is simulated by a Smoothed Particle SPH numerical model, where the kinematics of the boundary of the computational domain (the internal aortic vessel) is the one computed by the above procedure. The outputs of the SPH model, i.e., pressure and flow…

Double-balloon endoscopy for retrograde cholangiography in patients with choledochojejunostomy and Roux-en-Y reconstruction.

2009

BACKGROUND Choledochojejunal anastomoses with Roux-en-Y reconstruction excludes the biliary tract from conventional endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC) with standard endoscopes due to the length of the interposed small bowel segment. Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) facilitates deep insertion into the small bowel and may be used to perform ERC in these patients. In the present case series we report our experience with diagnostic and therapeutic double-balloon ERC in patients with choledochojejunostomy to a long Roux-en-Y loop previously unavailable for standard length endoscopes. PATIENTS AND METHODS Between December 2004 and May 2008 15 patients (mean age: 60.2 years) with choledoc…
