Propranolol and infantile hemangiomas: Outcome from a tricentric study.

2020

Introduction: The introduction of propranolol as systemic therapy for infantile hemangiomas (IH) has changed the natural history of these tumors. Cases presenting with ulceration, functional limitation, and visceral or life-threatening localization are excellent indications to medical therapy. The aim was to report the medium term follow-up after the introduction of propranolol in 3 referral centers with particular attention to outcome and surgical treatments. Materials and methods: In the period 2011-2018 348 patients underwent systemic therapy with propanolol at a mean age of 3.5 months (range 1-10). The indications to begin the treatment were: visceral localization (10,6%), ulceration (2…

Quality of life improving after propranolol treatment in patients with Infantile Hemangiomas

2022

AbstractInfantile hemangiomas may affect the quality of life (QoL) of patients and their family members, as anxiety and worry may commonly occur in parents, also linked to the social adversion they experience. We underline the beneficial impact of oral propranolol therapy on QoL of patients with infantile hemangiomas (IH) and of their relatives. A specific questionnaire measuring QoL was administered to parents of IH patients at beginning and end of a treatment with oral propranolol. Different aspects were investigated: site of the lesion, age of patients at starting therapy, length of treatment, occurrence of adverse effects and persistence/recurrence of the vascular anomaly. In all cases …

Sturge-Weber syndrome: a report of 14 cases

2013

Sturge-Weber-Krabe syndrome (SWS), also known as encephalotrigeminalangiomatosis and named the forthfacomatosis, recall the names of the authors who first describedit in its basic clinical, radiological andanatomopathological aspects. We report here 14 cases of Sturge-Weber disease. In 6 of these, despite what had been previously described in literature, an extension of the angioma has been noted in other parts of the body. The study of these subjects stresses not only the need for a pharmacological/neuropsychomotor intervention, but alsothe need of a psychotherapeutic approach, for the emotional and affective implications thatcould derive from this syndrome. The reported cases are similar …

Uferzellangiom - eine seltene Differentialdiagnose von Milztumoren

2008

UNLABELLED HISTORY AND PRE-ADMISSION FINDINGS: Routine abdominal sonography of a 51-year-old man 6 years after removal of the right testis and radiotherapy for a seminoma revealed a 3 cm mass within the spleen. INVESTIGATIONS All biochemical tests were normal. Computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the tumour which had not been present on the CT before the seminoma had been treated. No other space-occupying lesions were found in the thorax and abdomen. TREATMENT AND COURSE A splenectomy was performed because a metachronous metastasis of the seminoma was suspected. The operation and subsequent course were uneventful. At operation the tumour had been diagnosed as an…

Tumore adenomatoide

2006

Adenomatoid tumour is a neoplastic process of discussed origin, but the immunohistochemical phenotype leads a mesothelial derivation. The preferential site of origin is the genital apparatus of both sexes, however extragenital cases have been described. The histological pattern varies from tubular formation, to solid growth, to cystic areas. In the present report we described a case of Adenomatoid tumour of the uterus body in a 46 years old patient.

Tufted angiomas in childhood: A series of 9 cases and a literature review

2015

Introduction: Tufted angioma (TA) is a rare benign vascular tumour that mostly appears during infancy or early childhood, although there are cases reported in adults. Clinical presentation and evolution of TA can vary. Histologically, it takes on a classic appearance of vascular tufts (“cannon ball” like appearance). Patients and methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted that included all patients diagnosed with TA at our centre in the last 20 years. Results: A series of 9 cases of tufted angioma in childhood are presented, 77.7% of which were congenital. This represents a frequency higher than previously described. Spontaneous regression was observed in 55.5% of the cases,…

Early OCTA Changes of Type 3 Macular Neovascularization Following Brolucizumab Intravitreal Injections

2022

Background and Objectives: Brolucizumab is a novel anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), whose efficacy has been shown in the Hawk and Harrier phase 3 clinical studies. The goal of the present case series is to report initial results of brolucizumab intravitreal injections (IVI) on type 3 neovascularization in neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), evaluated by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA). Materials and Methods: This is a bicentric retrospective case series. Patients with newly diagnosed type 3 MNV treated with brolucizumab IVI and at least 6 months follow-up were enrolled. OCTA en face images and B-scans were analyzed for lesions at baseline, 1 m…
