Subwavelength beams with polarization singularities in plasmonic metamaterials
2014
We investigated the diffraction behavior of plasmonic Bessel beams propagating in metal-dielectric stratified materials and wire media. Our results reveal various regimes in which polarization singularities are selectively maintained. This polarization-pass effect can be controlled by appropriately setting the filling factor of the metallic inclusions and its internal periodic distribution. These results may have implications in the development of devices at the nanoscale level for manipulation of polarization and angular momentum of cylindrical vector beams. This research was funded by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness under the project TEC2011-29120-C05-01.
Study of spatial lateral resolution in off-axis digital holographic microscopy
2015
The lateral resolution in digital holographic microscopy (DHM) has been widely studied in terms of both recording and reconstruction parameters. Although it is understood that once the digital hologram is recorded the physical resolution is fixed according to the diffraction theory and the pixel density, still some researches link the resolution of the reconstructed wavefield with the recording distance as well as with the zero-padding technique. Aiming to help avoiding these misconceptions, in this paper we analyze the lateral resolution of DHM through the variation of those two parameters. To support our outcomes, we have designed numerical simulations and experimental verifications. Both…
Analytical prediction of ultimate moment and curvature of RC rectangular sections in compression
2013
This paper presents closed form expressions linking the ultimate bearing capacity to the ultimate curvature of rectangular RC sections subjected to axial load and bending moment acting in one of the two symmetry planes of the section. With respect to possible simplified formulations the following effects are also considered: confinement of the concrete, hardening of the longitudinal reinforcement, and presence of reinforcing bars distributed orthogonally to the neutral axis. The formulation is proposed in dimensional terms after a preliminary definition of the geometrical and mechanical parameters governing the structural response of the class of sections considered. The analytical expressi…
Basis-set completeness profiles in two dimensions
2002
A two-electron basis-set completeness profile is proposed by analogy with the one-electron profile introduced by D. P. Chong (Can J Chem 1995, 73, 79). It is defined as Y(alpha, beta) = sigmam sigman (Galpha(1)Gbeta(2)/(1/r12)/ psim(1)psin(2)) (psim(1)psin(2)/r12/Galpha(1)Gp(2)) and motivated by the expression for the basis-set truncation correction that occurs in the framework of explicitly correlated methods (Galpha is a scanning Gaussian-type orbital of exponent alpha and [psim] is the orthonormalized one-electron basis under study). The two-electron basis-set profiles provide a visual assessment of the suitability of basis sets to describe electron-correlation effects. Furthermore, they…
Graded Involutions on Upper-triangular Matrix Algebras
2009
Let UTn be the algebra of n × n upper-triangular matrices over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero. We describe all G-gradings on UTn by a finite abelian group G commuting with an involution (involution gradings).
Ordinary and graded cocharacter of the Jordan algebra of 2x2 upper triangular matrices
2014
Abstract Let F be a field of characteristic zero and U J 2 ( F ) be the Jordan algebra of 2 × 2 upper triangular matrices over F . In this paper we give a complete description of the space of multilinear graded and ordinary identities in the language of Young diagrams through the representation theory of a Young subgroup of S n . For every Z 2 -grading of U J 2 ( F ) we compute the multiplicities in the graded cocharacter sequence and furthermore we compute the ordinary cocharacter.
Polynomial codimension growth of algebras with involutions and superinvolutions
2017
Abstract Let A be an associative algebra over a field F of characteristic zero endowed with a graded involution or a superinvolution ⁎ and let c n ⁎ ( A ) be its sequence of ⁎-codimensions. In [4] , [12] it was proved that if A is finite dimensional such sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if A generates a variety not containing a finite number of ⁎-algebras: the group algebra of Z 2 and a 4-dimensional subalgebra of the 4 × 4 upper triangular matrices with suitable graded involutions or superinvolutions. In this paper we focus our attention on such algebras since they are the only finite dimensional ⁎-algebras, up to T 2 ⁎ -equivalence, generating varieties of almost polynomial gr…
Varieties of almost polynomial growth: classifying their subvarieties
2007
Let G be the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra over a field F of characteristic zero and UT2 the algebra of 2 x 2 upper triangular matrices over F. The relevance of these algebras in PI-theory relies on the fact that they generate the only two varieties of almost polynomial growth, i.e., they grow exponentially but any proper subvariety grows polynomially. In this paper we completely classify, up to PI-equivalence, the associative algebras A such that A is an element of Var(G) or A is an element of Var(UT2).
Varieties of superalgebras of almost polynomial growth
2011
Abstract Let V gr be a variety of superalgebras and let c n gr ( V gr ) , n = 1 , 2 , … , be its sequence of graded codimensions. Such a sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if V gr does not contain a list of five superalgebras consisting of a commutative superalgebra, the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra and the algebra of 2 × 2 upper triangular matrices with trivial and natural Z 2 -gradings. In this paper we completely classify all subvarieties of the varieties generated by these five superalgebras, by giving a complete list of finite dimensional generating superalgebras.
