Effects of halofenozide (RH-0345) on cuticular hydrocarbons of mosquito larvae of Culex pipiens

Poster; Insect cuticular hydrocarbons are known to have a protection and a pheromonal role. Quantitative changes in the cuticular hydrocarbons of Diptera occur over time and were used in a preliminary attempt to age-grade of mosquitoes. Halofenozide (RH-0345) is an insect growth regulator belonging to the class of non-steroidal ecdysone agonists. In a previous study, halofenozide was found to be effective against larvae of Culex pipiens L. (Diptera: Culicidae) and exerted its toxicity primarily by the induction of a precocious lethal molting (Boudjelida et al., 2005). Caspartin: thermal stability and occurrence in mollusk calcified tissues.

The dissolution of these prisms releases an assemblage of acidic intracrystalline proteins, among which caspartin, an Asp-rich protein (Marin et al., 2005). A polyclonal antibody raised against purified caspartin was used for estimating its thermal stability, and for investigating the presence of cross-reacting proteins in the shell matrices of several mollusks. In ski jumping low body weight development resulted in some serious underweight problems and therefore the International Ski Federation (FIS) decided to solve the problem by relating maximum ski length to Body Mass Index (BMI) in 2004. The present study examined the current relationship between body weight, ski length and performance (jumping distance) in ski jumping. Fructose 2,6-bisphosphate as a signal for changing from sugar to lipid oxidation during flight in locusts

AbstractFlight in locusts is initially powered mainly by carbohydrate but if flight is to be sustained, as in migration, the animals have to utilize fat as the predominant fuel. The molecular basis of this metabolic switch has not been identified. Fructose 2,6-bisphosphate is a potent activator of 6-phosphofructokinase (EC 2.7.1.11) purified from locust flight muscle. After the first few minutes of flight in the locust the concentration of fructose 2,6-bisphosphate in the flight muscle falls dramatically, which should lead to a decrease in the activity of 6-phosphofructokinase as part of the mechanism to conserve carbohydrate during prolonged flight.

Introduction: The chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) is a well-established model of both vasculogenesis and angiogenesis; however, little is known about the genetic control of vascular patterning in the CAM. Methods: Using recent advances in chicken genomics, we investigated the relative expression of 84 angiogenesis genes during the growth and remodeling of the CAM microcirculatory network.
