Abstract Firemaster BP6, a mixture of polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs), was administered to female Sprague-Dawley rats (170–180 g) as a single ip injection at 25 and 150 mg/kg. Other animals received phenobarbital (PB), 3-methylcholanthrene (3MC), or PB and 3MC together. Animals were killed at intervals of 12, 24, 48, 192, and 336 hr after treatment with PBBs, or 24 hr after PB, MC, or PB-MC, and various hepatic microsomal parameters were measured. After 150 mg/kg of PBBs, cytochrome P450 concentrations reached a maximum by 48 hr (225% of control), then remained elevated through 336 hr. Background The literature does not report any association between habitual snoring and sleep bruxism, but these situations can be a reason for frequent complaints of individuals, impairing the quality of life. This study was performed to investigate the sleep period and amount of habitual snoring in individuals with sleep bruxism observing expiratory, inspiratory, and mixed snoring. During stroke the blood–brain barrier (BBB) is damaged which can result in vasogenic brain edema and inflammation. The reduced blood supply leads to decreased delivery of oxygen and glucose to affected areas of the brain. Oxygen and glucose deprivation (OGD) can cause upregulation of glucose uptake of brain endothelial cells. Systemic pulsatile pressure in type II endoleaks after stent grafting of experimental abdominal aortic aneurysms.

Purpose: To investigate pressure and maximum rate of rise of systolic pressure (peak dP/dt) in completely excluded aneurysms and endoleaks to determine the hemodynamic impact of endoleaks. Methods: In mongrel dogs (n = 36) experimental aneurysms were created by insertion of a patch (portion of rectus abdominis muscle sheath) into the infrarenal aorta. In group I (n = 18), all aortic branches of the aneurysm were ligated and all aneurysms were completely excluded by stent grafts. Acute exercise induced changes in rat skeletal muscle mRNAs and proteins regulating type IV collagen content

This experiment tested the hypothesis that running-induced damage to rat skeletal muscle causes changes in synthesis and degradation of basement membrane type IV collagen and to proteins regulating its degradation. Samples from soleus muscle and red and white parts of quadriceps femoris muscle (MQF) were collected 6 h or 1, 2, 4, or 7 days after downhill running. Increased muscle β-glucuronidase activity indicated greater muscle damage in the red part of MQF than in the white part of MQF or soleus. Determination of renal tissue ibandronate levels in rats with normal and mildly impaired renal function

After entering the blood, bisphosphonates are immediately bound to bone or excreted unchanged by the kidney. During renal excretion about 0.5% of administrated dosage remains in kidney tissue. The renal tissue level of bisphosphonates (RTL) decreases over time and remains at about 0.15% after 3weeks, but the influence of renal insufficiency (RI) is unclear.We investigated the influence of mild to moderate RI on RTL of ibandronate (IBD). Chick embryo retina development in vitro: the effect of insulin.

In this paper we study the development of chick embryo retina cultured in vitro and the effects exerted by insulin. Retinas were removed from 7-day embryos and cultured in serum- and hormone-free medium for 7 additional days. Under these conditions retinal cells survived and underwent cholinergic differentiation, as previously ascertained by Hausman et al. (Dev. Brain Res., 1991, 59: 31-37). However, a great retardation of development was noted compared to uncultured control, 14-day retina. The effect of Dextransulfate 500 on the pathogenesis of herpes simplex virus infections in weanling mice

Intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of Dextran Sulfate (D.S.) 500 during a limited period of time influences the course of herpes simplex-virus-infections. D.S.500 was found to reduce the resistance of mice for some herpes simplex-virus strains (Len, L3-2s, Haase) if given between 16 hours before and 2 hours after i.p. infection. The decrease of resistance could be correlated with an increase of the virus content of liver, spleen, brain and spinal cord. Injection of herpes simplex-virus-specific immune serum counteracted the effect of D.S.500 on the course of infections. Localization of the bradykinin B2 receptor in uterus, bladder and Madin-Darby canine kidney cells

Kinins are biologically active peptides that act through specific receptors, B1 and B2. Here we describe the localization of the bradykinin B2 receptor in Madin-Darby canine kidney cells and in the uterus and urinary bladder of rat or human origin. We discuss the suitability of anti-peptide antibodies to assess the tissue distribution of bradykinin B2 receptors.
