According to the theory of compensatory dynamics, depleted populations should recover when the threat responsible for their decline is removed because per capita population growth is assumed to be highest when populations are at their smallest viable sizes. Yet, many seriously depleted fish populations have failed to recover despite threat mitigation. Atlantic cod (Gadus morhua) stocks off Newfoundland, despite 30 years of dramatically reduced fishing mortality and numerous fishery closures, have not recovered, suggesting that drivers other than fishing can regulate the growth of collapsed fish populations, inhibiting or preventing their recovery. Agent-based modelling of values: the case of value sensitive design for refugee logistics

We have used value sensitive design as a method to develop an agent-based model of values in humanitarian logistics for refugees. Schwartz's theory of universal values is implemented in the model in such a way that agents can make value trade-offs, which are operationalized into a measure of refugee wellbeing and a measure of public opinion about how the refugee logistics is being handled. By trying out different ‘value-scenarios’, stakeholders who are responsible for, or involved in refugee logistics can have insights into the effects of various value choices. Si è indagata all’interno di questo studio l’operosità di Vito D’Anna, celebre esponente della pittura siciliana del Settecento. Pertanto, si è esaminata in maniera aggiornata, la sua complessiva produzione artistica, a partire dalle iniziali opere di gusto tardobarocco fino a quelle più mature, legate al Rococò. Peraltro, in alcune di esse vi sono tracce neoclassiche. The relationship between the Demeter cults and the offering of piglets is a cornerstone of many discussions about ancient Greek religion. However, this connection has rarely been supported by systematic zooarchaeological studies. The new excavations at the sanctuary of S. Anna greatly increase the zooarchaeological record of Sicily, while also providing an excellent case study for exploring the broader issues of ancient Greek ritual practice. Our results highlight the almost exclusive presence of pig bones, mostly belonging to very young individuals. L'Angleterre du dix-huitième siècle, en grande partie parce qu'elle est un pays de tradition protestante, a une problématique légèrement différente de la France à la fois sur l'enseignement des femmes et sur leur éducation. Chez les éducatrices à la pensée politique la plus radicale, le déclenchement de la Révolution française suscite les espoirs d'une égalité des sexes et d'un traitement commun des filles et des garçons dans le cadre d'un renouvellement du système éducatif.
