Synthesis and structure of tetrakis(tetramethylammonium) octacosachlorooctaantimonate(III) [(CH3)4N]4Sb8Cl28

2000

Abstract The reaction between antimony trichloride and tetramethylammonium chloride in nitromethane gives transparent, irregular crystals of tetrakis(tetramethylammonium) octacosachlorooctaantimonate(III) [(CH 3 ) 4 N] 4 Sb 8 Cl 28 . Crystals are triclinic, space group P-1, a =11.846(2), b =12.217(2), c=14.120(3) A , α =95.71(3), β =101.39(3), γ =118.59(3)°, V=1713.7(5) A 3 , Z =1, d c =2.193, d m =2.17(2) Mg m −3 . The structure contains a structurally novel Sb 8 Cl 28 4- anion. It is composed of eight deformed octahedra, connected with each other by faces. In cavities formed by inorganic sublattice are located two crystallographically nonequivalent tetramethylammonium cations. One of them…

Thermodynamic and19F NMR studies of antimony trifluoride in water

1993

Densities, specific heat capacities per unit volume and enthalpies of dilution at 25°C and osmotic coefficients at 37°C were measured for antimony trifluoride in water as functions of concentration. From the first three properties the apparent and partial molar volumes, heat capacities and relative enthalpies were derived. As well, pH measurements in water at 25°C and19F NMR spectra in water and methanol at 33°C were also carried out. All the thermodynamic properties together with the chemical shifts abruptly change in the very dilute concentration region (<0.1m) and, then, tend to a constant value. These trends have been rationalized through a simple model based on an equilibrium of dissoc…

Synthesis, antimony-121 mössbauer and infrared spectral characterization of antimony trifluoride and catecholatoantimony(III) fluoride adducts with t…

1988

Abstract The synthesis of the adducts SbF 3 (L) and (C 6 H 4 O 2 )SbF(L) [L = pyridine-2-carboxaldehyde- 2-pyridylhydrazone (paphyH); 2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine (terpy) and 2,4,6-tris(2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (tpta)] is reported. Infrared data are consistent with the occurred chelation from the terdentate ligand providing an overall pseudo-seven coordination at Sb. The stereoactivity of the antimony lone pair is inferred from the large value of the Mossbauer quadrupole coupling constant observed for all the compounds.

Studies on antimony trifluoride in thiocyanate salt matrices. Evidence for the formation of fluoro-thiocyanato anti-mony(III) species

1990

Abstract Antimony trifluoride can be dissolved in fused KNCS or NH4NCS giving yellow-orange solutions which are stable only for a short time just above their melting point. Infrared an Mossbauer results on solidified samples reveal the formation of mixed fluoro-thiocyanato antimony(III) species and indicate a different behaviour in the two matrices.

Selective oxidation of propane over alkali-doped Mo-V-Sb-O catalysts

2009

[EN] Alkali metal-doped MoVSbO catalysts have been prepared by impregnation of a MoVSbO-mixed oxide (prepared previously by a hydrothermal synthesis) and finally activated at 500 or 600 degrees C in N-2. The catalysts have been characterized and tested for the selective oxidation of propane and propylene. Alkali-doped catalysts improved in general the catalytic performance of MoVSbO, resulting more selective to acrylic acid and less selective to acetic acid than the corresponding alkali-free MoVSbO catalysts. However, the specific behaviour strongly depends on both the alkali metal added and/or the final activation temperature. At isoconversion conditions, catalysts activated at 600 degrees…

The determination of antimony and arsenic concentrations in fly ash by hydride generation inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry

2011

Abstract Hydride generation inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (HG-ICP-OES) was used in the determination of As and Sb concentrations in fly ash samples. The effect of sample pre-treatment reagents and measurement parameters used for hydride generation was evaluated. Due to memory effects observed, the appropriate read delay time was adjusted to 60 s resulting in RSDs 0.6% and 2.3% for As and Sb, respectively. The most suitable volumes of pre-reduction reagents for 10 mL of sample were 4 mL of KI/ascorbic acid (5%) and 6 mL of HCl (conc.). The determination of Sb was significantly interfered by HF, but the interference could be eliminated by adding 2 mL of saturated bo…

Progress in electron microscopic diagnostics: semi-quantitative determination of precipitable calcium in different cell types of the organ of Corti i…

1991

Potassium antimonate was used to precipitate calcium in the cochlea of the guinea-pig. The distribution of the calcium antimonate precipitates was analysed by electron microscopy. The precipitate density was determined in different cell types in the organ of Corti by counting the number of calcium binding sites in a 10-micron 2 area. The size of the precipitates varied considerably, and thus the relative amount of the precipitable calcium was estimated only semi-quantitatively. As the prominent carbon signal is superimposed over the nearby small Ca(2+)-edge signals, the combined signal of the antimony M4,5-edge and the oxygen K-edge of the calcium antimonate salt formed was chosen for the s…

Stilbene-based anticancer agents: Resveratrol analogues active toward HL60 leukemic cells wit a non-specific phase mechanism

2006

Several stilbenes, related to known resveratrol, have been synthesized and tested for their anticancer effect on HL60 leukemia cell line, taking particular care of the cell cycle analysis. The most potent compound was the known (Z)-3,4',5-trimethoxystilbene (6b) which was active as apoptotic agent at 0.24 microM. Differently from other stilbenes (including resveratrol) that induced a prevalent recruitment of cells in S phase of cell cycle, we found a peculiar behavior of 6b that caused a decrease of cells in all phases of cell cycle (G0-G1, S, and G2-M) and a proportional increase of apoptotic cells. The potent pro-apoptotic activity shown by compound 6b and its effects on cell cycle make t…
