Ruthenium Janus-Head Complexes with a Triazolediylidene Ligand. Structural Features and Catalytic Applications
2007
The use of the ligand triazolediylidene (ditz), has afforded the preparation of two new complexes of Ru in which the ligand is bridging two metal fragments in a facially opposed (Janus-head) disposition. One of the complexes is dinuclear (2) and the other tetranuclear (3). The tetranuclear compound displays interesting structural features, as shown by the X-ray diffraction studies. The two complexes have been tested in the catalytic β-alkylation of secondary alcohols with primary alcohols, providing high activities when both aliphatic and aromatic alcohols are used.
Maintenance and Function of Human CD8+ T Cells and NK Cells in Humanized Mice
2014
Human CD8+ T lymphocytes and NK cells can be successfully engrafted in highly immuno-deficient mouse strains such as NOD/shi-SCID/γgcnull (NOG), NOD/SCID/IL2Rγnull (NSG), NOD/Rag1KO/γcnull (NRG), and BALB/c-Rag2KO/γcnull (BRG) mice following reconstitution with human CD34+ hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) or, alternatively, upon adoptive transfer of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC). These humanized immune system (HIS) mice have evolved as a promising tool to study human CD8+ T cell and NK cell-mediated immune responses to cancer and infectious diseases and to explore new approaches in adoptive immunotherapy and vaccination. However, long-term generation of CD8+ T lymphocytes and NK …

A Channel-Aware Adaptive System for Underwater Acoustic Communications
2021
In recent years, underwater communications have seen a growing interest pushed by marine research, oceanography, marine commercial operations, offshore oil industry and defense applications. Generally, underwater communications employ audio signals which can propagate relatively far. However, acoustic underwater channels are very challenging, because of limited bandwidth, long propagation delays, extended multipath, severe attenuation, rapid time variation and large Doppler shifts. A plethora of underwater communication techniques have been developed for dealing with such a complexity, mostly tailoring specific applications scenarios which can not be considered as one-size-fits-all solution…
Pieśni chóru pod skreśleniem w "Zawiszy Czarnym" Juliusza Słowackiego
2019
The manuscript of the drama about Zawisza Czarny (unreleased during the poet’s life) is divided in editions and critical analyzes into two, three or four editorials in which individual scenes sometimes obtained more than one study. There are significant differences between the various editorial regarding the construction of the presented world, which is evidenced by the condition and function of the choir, present only in two out of four editors (C and D) and in different studies of one episode (D, C2 and C1). The choir (Chorus) once remains merely a retinue of the powerful spirit of the mythical Wanda (D), other times it shortens its distance from the characters and may even join their dia…
Studies of Jak/STAT3 expression and signalling in psoriasis identifies STAT3-Ser727 phosphorylation as a modulator of transcriptional activity
2013
Jak/Tyk proteins have recently aroused as possible therapeutic targets for the treatment of psoriasis. In psoriasis, these proteins signal through STAT molecules including STAT3, and STAT3 expression and activation has been shown augmented in psoriatic lesions. Here, we characterized the expression of Jak/Tyk proteins in lesional compared with non-lesional psoriatic skin. Jak1, Jak2 mRNA and protein and Tyk2 mRNA appeared to be downregulated, whereas Jak3 mRNA expression was increased. Moreover, STAT3 expression and activation was examined in psoriasis. STAT3 is activated at two phosphorylation sites: Tyr705 and Ser727. Both phosphorylation sites were phosphorylated in lesional psoriatic sk…
STAT1 expression and activation is increased in lesional psoriatic skin
2013
Summary Background The JAK (Janus kinase)/STAT (signal transducer and activator of transcription) signalling pathway is known to play an important role in many cellular processes including inflammation. The activation of STAT1 is dependent on tyrosine 701 and serine 727 phosphorylation, which leads to the formation of the STAT dimer and modulation of STAT1 activity, respectively. Objective To determine STAT1 expression and activation in psoriatic skin. Methods Biopsies were collected from patients with psoriasis. mRNA expression was evaluated by quantitative polymerase chain reaction, whereas the protein and phosphorylation level of STAT1 were evaluated by Western blotting. STAT1 localiz…
Dairy yeasts produce milk protein-derived antihypertensive hydrolysates
2013
Abstract The potential of 20 dairy yeast strains belonging to Debaryomyces hansenii , Kluyveromyces lactis and Kluyveromyces marxianus species was examined for the production of milk protein-derived antihypertensive hydrolysates. For this purpose yeast strains were grown in microbiological medium with casein or lactoferrin as sole nitrogen source, and the inhibitory effects of casein and lactoferrin hydrolysates (CSHs and LFHs) on angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) activity were determined. Based on the ACE-inhibitory activity, four CSHs and five LFHs were selected, and permeate fractions with molecular masses lower than 3 kDa (pCSHs and pLFHs) were obtained. In vitro ACE-inhibitory pote…
