Candida biotypes in patients with oral leukoplakia and lichen planus. Candida biotypes in leukoplakia and lichen planus.

1996

Prevalence of yeasts in 35 leukoplakia and 34 oral lichen planus patients was compared with that observed in persons without oral diseases. Serotype and morphotype were determined on Candida albicans isolates. Yeasts were isolated from the oral cavity specimens of 43.7% of the patients. C. albicans (serotype A) was the predominant species (76% in leukoplakia, 88.2% in lichen planus and 60.8% in healthy persons). Sixteen morphotypes were encountered on malt extract agar, being 732, 733, 734, 753 and 754 the most frequently found. Morphotypes SP1N and SP1Y were the most common on Sabouraud-trypheniltetrazolium agar (68.4% of the isolates from leukoplakia and 73.3% from lichen planus, but only…

Tomato leaf miner Tuta absoluta (Meyrick,1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) The old and new challenge

2014

The term Phytosanitary exists within many of the modern and old scientific terms such as: organic farming, plant protection, integrated pest management, national and international movement of plant germplasm, biosecurity, good agricultural practices and others. There are many aspects within those related terms. All those terms have common interests of which the pests' risk be avoided and the environmental health is achieved. Consequently preventive measures, precaution measures and effective testing procedures are required. The study problem is the pest Tuta absoluta (Meyrick, 1917) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae), the Tomato leaf miner, this pest is one of the most devastating pests affecting T…

Microwave effects on germination and growth of radish (Raphanus sativus L.) seedlings

2002

Germination of radish seeds was delayed and reduced by low-power microwave exposure at 10.5 and 12.5 GHz. Irradiation decreased also hypocotyl growth rate. These effects were increased by rising of the microwave power and by the vertically polarised electromagnetic field. When the irradiation was suspended the seedling growth recovered.

Food partitioning between Serranus scriba and Scorpaena porcus (Perciformes) on the infralittoral ground of the South Tyrrhenian Sea.

1993

Food preferences of Scorpaena porcus and Serranus scriba were investigated from the stomach contents of fish caught with trammel nets in the Gulf of Palermo (Tyrrhenian Sea). Decapoda Natantia and Decapoda Brachyura were the main preferred prey in the diet of S. porcus whereas Decapoda Natantia, Decapoda Galatheidae and Pisces were the preferred prey for S. scriba. These results and the values of the index of overlapping alimentary requirements suggested competition for food resources between the two species. A more precise investigation, at species level, of the food remains of the most abundant taxon (Crustacea Decapoda) made it possible to demonstrate that the trophic niche overlap betwe…

IN RICORDO DI PIETRO DODERLEIN (2 FEBBRAIO 1809 - 28 MARZO 1895)

2018

A bioenergetics framework for integrating the effects of multiple stressors: Opening a 'black box' in climate change research

2015

Climate change is already impacting marine ecosystems across a range of scales, from individual physiology, to changes in species interactions and community structure, and ultimately to patterns in geographic distribution. Predicting how marine ecosystems will respond to environmental change is a signifi cant challenge because vulnerability to climatic and non-climatic stressors is highly variable, and depends on an organism’s functional traits, tolerance to stressors, and the environment in which it lives. We present a mechanistic approach based on biophysical and dynamic energy budget models that integrates the cumulative effects of multiple environmental stressors (temperature and food) …

Adrano, Efesto e i Palici. Culti, interazioni etniche e middle ground nella Sicilia antica

2015
