Energy balance during outdoor education winter training: a pilot study
2023
Learning in the mountains during winter prepares upcoming guides for tough environments by placing demands on their energy intake and enabling them to cope with a complex environment. However, few studies have explored energy intake and expenditure in outdoor education. Thus, energy intake during a 24-hour winter mountain course was investigated in a Norwegian educational context, where students must absorb large volumes of information in a challenging environment. Twenty university students (11 men, 9 women) underwent body composition, weighed energy intake, and accelerometry-based energy expenditure measurements. Overall, the students had an energy deficit of>2,300 kilo-calories/day, corr…

Emission-Line Intensity Ratios in F[CLC]e[/CLC] [CSC]xvii[/CSC] Observed with a Microcalorimeter on an Electron Beam Ion Trap
2000
We report new observations of emission line intensity ratios of Fe XVII under controlled experimental conditions, using the National Institute of Standards and Technology electron beam ion trap (EBIT) with a microcalorimeter detector. We compare our observations with collisional-radiative models using atomic data computed in distorted wave and R-matrix approximations, which follow the transfer of the polarization of level populations through radiative cascades. Our results for the intensity ratio of the 2p6 1S0-2p53d 1P1 15.014 A line to the 2p6 1S0-2p53d 3D1 15.265 A line are 2.94 ± 0.18 and 2.50 ± 0.13 at beam energies of 900 and 1250 eV, respectively. These results are not consistent wit…
On coronal structures and their variability in active stars: The case of Capella observed with Chandra/LETGS
2003
In this paper we present a detailed analysis of two X-ray spectra of Capella, taken eleven months apart with the Low Energy Transmission Grating Spectrometer (LETGS) of the Chandra Observatory. We have studied variability of the coronal emission over different time scales, both in the whole X-ray band and in narrow temperature ranges identified by lines. The comparison of the two observations shows that the whole coronal emission of Capella in March 2000 was 3% higher than in February 2001; there also appears to be a tendency, albeit a marginal one, for the hottest lines to show the largest changes between the two observations. A detailed search for short-term variability (on time scales ra…
Phonological precision for word recognition in skilled readers
2019
According to the lexical quality hypothesis (Perfetti, 2007), differences in the orthographic, semantic, and phonological representations of words will affect individual reading performance. Whilst several studies have focused on orthographic precision and semantic coherence, few have considered phonological precision. The present study used a suite of individual difference measures to assess which components of lexical quality contributed to competition resolution in a masked priming experiment. The experiment measured form priming for word and pseudoword targets with dense and sparse neighbourhoods in 84 university students. Individual difference measures of language and cognitive skills …
2006
The contract dated 1511 signed by Fernando Llanos and Fernando Yáñez de la Almedina, Castillian painters known as “the Hernandos,” for the termination of an altarpiece in the chapel of the “Virgen de les Febres” is presented here. This chapel was founded in 1497 in the collegiate church of Jàtiva (Valencia) by Francisco de Borja, Bishop of Teano and Cardinal of Cosenza. Based on this document, a series of hypotheses are put forth concerning the trajectory and works of “the Hernandos” following their execution of the doors of the main altarpiece of the Cathedral of Valencia.

2017
Tutkielmani tavoitteena on tutkia mitä merkityksiä opiskelijoiden pokeriyhteisö antaa yhteisölle ja pokeripelille: miksi he pelaavat pokeria ja minkä takia he viettävät aikaa yhteisössä? Peliyhteisön tutkimuksen pohjana käytän sosiologi Michel Maffesolin käsitettä uusheimolaisuus, johon sovellan ja vertaan tutkimaani yhteisöä. Lisäksi käyn läpi yhteisön jäsenten suhtautumista rahapelaamiseen ja erityisesti Texas Hold’em pokerivariaatioon, jota he yhteisössä pelasivat.
The Display of Royal Ecclesiastical Power: The Palatine Chapel of Palermo (1586–1713)
2021
Any study of the Palatine Chapel in Palermo should take into account the two contexts of Spanish Caesaropapism in Sicily, namely a Church established by Habsburg rulers with the monarch at its head, and international relationships between the Spanish Monarchy, France, and the Holy See. This chapel, situated right at the heart of the Royal Palace – seat of both the Viceroy and the tribunals of the Kingdom – was actually a sort of miniature cathedral for the Spanish king-pope (as ecclesiastical patron and papal legate), and the fact that it was dedicated to Saint Peter clearly evoked the papal Basilica of the same name in Rome. The Palatine Chapel was indeed one of the main issues associated …
2006
Sentrale prinsipp i Lexicase Dependency Grammar (LCDG) blir presenterte i kap. 2.
