Analysis and optimization of fuel cell cogeneration systems for application in single-family houses

2010

The world’s demand of energy is projected to double by 2050 in accordance with population growth and with the industrialization of developing countries. The supply of fossil fuel could be limited and even worse is concentrated in a few regions of world, while demand is growing everywhere. One promising alternative to fossil fuel is hydrogen which is abundant and generously distributed through the world without regard for national boundaries. The aim of this paper is to explore this early market opportunity for fuel cell cogeneration systems in buildings and to determine the conditions under which they might compete with the alternative of purchased power. It is suitable to identify and to p…

Efficient Modeling of NMR Parameters in Carbon Nanosystems

2015

Rapid growth of nanoscience and nanotechnology requires new and more powerful modeling tools. Efficient theoretical modeling of large molecular systems at the ab initio and Density Functional Theory (DFT) levels of theory depends critically on the size and completeness of the basis set used. The recently designed variants of STO-3G basis set (STO-3Gel, STO-3Gmag), modified to correctly predict electronic and magnetic properties were tested on simple models of pristine and functionalized carbon nanotube (CNT) systems and fullerenes using the B3LYP and VSXC density functionals. Predicted geometries, vibrational properties, and HOMO/LUMO gaps of the model systems, calculated with typical 6-31G…

Table of Periodic Properties of Fullerenes Based on Structural Parameters.

2004

The periodic table (PT) of the elements suggests that hydrogen could be the origin of everything else. The construction principle is an evolutionary process that is formally similar to those of Darwin and Oparin. The Kekulé structure count and permanence of the adjacency matrix of fullerenes are related to structural parameters involving the presence of contiguous pentagons p, q and r. Let p be the number of edges common to two pentagons, q the number of vertices common to three pentagons, and r the number of pairs of nonadjacent pentagon edges shared between two other pentagons. Principal component analysis (PCA) of the structural parameters and cluster analysis (CA) of the fullerenes perm…

Probing Laser Plasma Dynamics Using High-Order Harmonics Generation in Carbon-Containing Nanomaterials

2021

We study high-order harmonics generation from plasmas generated from graphite, fullerenes, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, diamond nanoparticles, and graphene. Our approach utilizes a heating nanosecond laser pulse to produce plasmas that serve as the media for high harmonic generation from a subsequent driven femtosecond laser pulse. High harmonics are generated at different time delays following the plasma formation, which allows us to analyze the spreading of species with different masses. We analyze the harmonic yields from species of single carbon atom, 60 atoms (fullerene), 106 atoms (diamond nanoparticles), 109 atoms (CNTs and CNFs), and even much larger species of graphene shee…

An object-oriented development platform for transport layer protocols

2002

Transport layer protocols have become a necessary communication element for new and classical real-time applications. The implementation of these protocols has never been structured and the designers of transport layer protocols have always developed without following any pattern. The library we have designed tries to avoid this. We propose a C++ library which could be used to develop transport layer protocols, considering every generic element inside a protocol as an object. At the end we apply the library to a well known transport layer protocol known as SNR.

Efficacy of spot form of net blotch suppression in barley from seed, fertiliser and foliar applied fungicides

2022

Abstract Spot form of net blotch (SFNB), caused by Pyrenophora teres f. maculata is a prevalent and damaging foliar disease of barley (Hordeum vulgare). Fungicides are commonly used to manage SFNB infection and reduce production loss in susceptible varieties. This study determined the efficacy of suppression of SFNB and associated grain yield and quality improvements from application of fungicides to seed, fertiliser and/or foliar treatments. Eight field experiments were conducted in south-eastern Australia during 2016–2018. Two experiments compared single applications of different commercially available seed, fertiliser and foliar fungicides. Six experiments evaluated different growth stag…

Structure and Doping Determined Thermoelectric Properties of Bi2Se3Thin Films Deposited by Vapour–Solid Technique

2019

In this work, a simple catalyst-free vapour-solid deposition method was applied for controlled deposition of two types (planar and disordered) of continuous Bi 2 Se 3 nanostructured thin films on different (fused quartz/glass, mica, graphene) substrates. Characterisation of electron transport (type, concentration and mobility of the main charge carriers) and thermoelectric properties (Seebeck coefficient and power factor) showed that proposed in this work deposition method allows to obtain Bi 2 Se 3 thin films with power factor comparable and even higher than reported for the Bi 2 Se 3 thin films grown by molecular beam epitaxy technique. Power factor of the best obtained thin films can be …

Fuzzy methods for analysing fuzzy production environment

1998

Abstract Very recently, in production management research literature, the necessity to extend production systems analysis techniques, such as queue theory, Mean Value Analysis (MVA) and discrete simulation, to Fuzzy Production Environments, i.e. to those production situations in which data are vague, has emerged. Fuzzy set theory is a powerful tool to model vagueness and, therefore, fuzzy mathematics can be used to extend classical production system analysis techniques. This paper proposes a methodology based on fuzzy relation algebra to extend classical MVA and discrete event simulation.

Iterative altitude-aiding algorithm for improved GNSS positioning

2011

The system proposed in this study relies on a WAVE P2P network, which is a proper standard to fit the vehicular environment wireless communications requests. Starting from the chance to exchange information given by this infrastructure, the possibility to improve the performance of a global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receiver based on a Kalman filter is considered. This improvement is obtained exploiting the external altitude measurements provided by other peers in the network, equipped with GNSS receivers. The topic of an altitude-aided system has been described in a previous work, that highlighted the need for a parameter that points out the effectiveness and the consistency of th…
