Synergistic Effect of Physical Therapy Plus Pharmacological Therapy with Eperisone in Tension-Type Cervicalgia
2019
Background. This study assessed the effect of eperisone + physical therapy compared with physical therapy alone on the alleviation of pain and disability experienced by patients with tension-type cervicalgia. Methods. Patients with tension-type cervicalgia were randomized to eperisone + physical therapy (Group A) or physical therapy alone (Group B). Patients were assessed at baseline (T0), after 4-weeks’ treatment (T1), and at 2 months’ follow-up (T2). Outcome measures included the Numerical Rating Scale, the Italian version of the Neck Pain and Disability Scale, the Short Form-McGill Pain Questionnaire, and the Italian version of the Neck Disability Index. Results. Ninety-eight patients (5…

Dis-Identity: New Forms of Identity and Psychopathology—Socioanthropological Changes and Self-Development
2014
The passage from modernity to postmodernity deeply upset the group dimension, and, consequently, personal identity itself. Transformations involving the entire planet, socioanthropological changes our society had to cope with, are producing a change in the dynamics of identity formation and the appearance of new psychopathological figures. The loss of cohesion of the sense of belonging and the weak internalization process of the elements that form the individual identity (cultural, linguistic, religious traditions, etc.) draw an essentially uncertain and temporary existence. Drawing on some themes of subjectual group analysis theory of personality, the article proposes the concept of dis-id…
Logos, Pathos and Ethos in Ackroyd's Plato's Papers via an Interdisciplinary Psycho-philosophical Approach
2014
Abstract The present moral crisis of humanity will be closely considered in Ackroyd's Plato's Papers via Riemann's Theorem of Earth Mapping, Kelly's Personal Construct theory and Plato's Idea of the Third Man with a view to showing that only the generally assumed relationship between logos and ethos could rescue the mentality of the entire world and retrieve temporality and morality. For this approach to be successfully turned to good account the Aristotelian concepts of Logos (the thinking part of the intellect) mediating with Pathos (the feeling self) through the actions of his acting self, the personal Ethos, will be employed in relation to Ackroyd's character, Plato, the philosopher-ora…
A Multidisciplinary Approach to the Analysis of Multifactorial Land Mammal Colonization of Islands
2013
A highly debated question that engages paleontologists, zoogeographers, and zoologists is how terrestrial mammals colonize islands. The question’s oversimplification and the subjective and partial responses to it have led to reductionist models. Insular faunas and fossil assemblages result from a complex interaction of geological, biological (in a broad sense), climatic, eustatic, taphonomic, and historical processes. Insular assemblages and their accompanying variables should be investigated on a case-by-case basis. In this article, we discuss not only common misconceptions and their potential origins but also the key issues that should be addressed when dealing with the colonization of is…
Oral cancer and treatment information involved in therapeutic decision-making
2019
Early detection of oral cancer improves survival after treatment and the quality of life. The adoption of standardized methodological protocols of screening has increased the possibilities for early identification and appropriate treatment. The informed consent must be obtained by patients before any treatment and/or surgical procedure. The clinical and surgical details must be discussed with the patient, as well as potential risks and benefits. Consent must be documented in the medical record and consent forms may serve to document the physician's discussion with the patient. Objectives. all dentists are trained to detect the early signs of oral cancer. The health professional have a key r…
Algebraic approach to vibrational spectra of tetrahedral molecules. First order infrared intensity model.
1995
International audience; The algebraic approach we have proposed to describe the vibrational stretching modes of polyatomic molecules (Leroy and Michelot, J. Mol. Spectrosc. 151, 71–96 (1992); Can. J. Phys. 72, 274–289 (1994)) is applied to the silane molecule for up to seven quanta. We then suggest a form of the dipole operator adapted to the (n000) local states by combining the strength of group theory method with the necessity of a compact formulation.
The Global-Local Approach for Damage Detection in Composite Structures and Rails
2021
Structural components with waveguide geometry can be probed using guided elastic waves. Analytical solutions are prohibitive in complex geometries, especially in presence of structural discontinuities or defects. The Global-Local (GL) approach provides the solution by splitting the waveguide in “local” and “global” regions. The “local” region contains the part of the structure responsible for the complex scattering of an incident wave. What happens in this region cannot be reproduced analytically. The “global” region is regular and sufficiently far from the scatterer, in order to exploit known analytical wave propagation solutions. The proposed GL approach discretizes the local region by re…
