Estimate the mean electricity consumption curve by survey and take auxiliary information into account

In this thesis, we are interested in estimating the mean electricity consumption curve. Since the study variable is functional and storage capacities are limited or transmission cost are high survey sampling techniques are interesting alternatives to signal compression techniques. We extend, in this functional framework, estimation methods that take into account available auxiliary information and that can improve the accuracy of the Horvitz-Thompson estimator of the mean trajectory. A new algorithm for a robust solution of the fully dynamic Saint-Venant equations

A new procedure for the numerical solution of the fully dynamic shallow water equations is presented. The procedure is a fractional step methodology where the original system is split into two sequential ones. The first system differs from the original one because of the head gradient term, that is treated as constant and equal to the value computed at the end of the previous time step. The solution of this system, called kinematic, is computed in each element using a spatial zero order approximation for both the heads and the flow rates by means of integration of single ODEs. Second-order approximations to laser-assisted charged-particle scattering.

Multiphoton free-free transitions within a full second-order treatment of the scattering potential are considered with two specific aims: (i) to test some widely used approximations against exact calculations; (ii) to present differential cross sections for the laser-assisted positron scattering, in the regime of intermediate field intensities (up to ${10}^{13}$ W/${\mathrm{cm}}^{2}$). A method for high-resolution in-beam studies of internal pair transitions

Abstract A combination intermediate-image magnetic plus Si(Li) electron spectrometer has been adapted to internal pair formation measurements of cyclotron-induced reactions. The system is especially intended for the study of E0 transitions in the energy range from 1.5 to 8.6 MeV and to measurements of coincidences between internal pairs and heavy particles. Complete Measurement of the Λ Electromagnetic Form Factors.

The exclusive process e+e−→ΛΛ¯, with Λ→pπ− and Λ¯→p¯π+, has been studied at s=2.396 GeV for measurement of the timelike Λ electric and magnetic form factors, GE and GM. A data sample, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 66.9 pb−1, was collected with the BESIII detector for this purpose. A multidimensional analysis with a complete decomposition of the spin structure of the reaction enables a determination of the modulus of the ratio R=|GE/GM| and, for the first time for any baryon, the relative phase ΔΦ=ΦE−ΦM. The resulting values are R=0.96±0.14(stat)±0.02(syst) and ΔΦ=37°±12°(stat)±6°(syst), respectively. These are obtained using the recently established and most precise value of …

Multilinear sparse decomposition for best spectral bands selection

Optimal spectral bands selection is a primordial step in multispectral images based systems for face recognition. In this context, we select the best spectral bands using a multilinear sparse decomposition based approach. Multispectral images of 35 subjects presenting 25 different lengths from 480nm to 720nm and three lighting conditions: fluorescent, Halogen and Sun light are groupped in a 3-mode face tensor T of size 35x25x2 . Stochastic Approximation for Multivariate and Functional Median

We propose a very simple algorithm in order to estimate the geometric median, also called spatial median, of multivariate (Small (1990)) or functional data (Gervini (2008)) when the sample size is large. A simple and fast iterative approach based on the Robbins-Monro algorithm (Duflo (1997)) as well as its averaged version (Polyak and Juditsky (1992)) are shown to be effective for large samples of high dimension data. They are very fast and only require O(Nd) elementary operations, where N is the sample size and d is the dimension of data. Probing Surface Quantum Flows in Deformed Pygmy Dipole Modes

In order to explore the nature of collective modes in weakly bound nuclei, we have investigated deformation effects and surface flow patterns of isovector dipole modes in a shape-coexisting nucleus $^{40}$Mg. The calculations were done in a fully self-consistent continuum finite-amplitude Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA) in a large deformed spatial mesh. An unexpected result of pygmy and giant dipole modes having disproportionate deformation splittings in strength functions was obtained.
