Improving the On-Line Extraction of Polar Compounds by IT-SPME with Silica Nanoparticles Modified Phases

In the present work the extraction efficiency of in-tube solid-phase microextraction (IT-SPME) for polar herbicides has been evaluated using extractive capillaries coated with different polymeric sorbents. For this purpose, aqueous solutions of herbicides with a wide range of polarities, including some highly polar compounds (log Kow < 1), have been directly processed by IT-SPME coupled on-line to capillary liquid chromatography with UV-diode array detection. Prosthetic devices undergo corrosion processes after implantation including the release of certain amounts of metal ions into the adjacent tissues. On reaching the bloodstream, a systemic influence of those ions may be envisaged. Cell adhesion molecules (CAMs) are recognized as an essential component of the mechanisms of endothelial damage. Collapsible intact soil stabilisation using non-aqueous polymeric vehicle

Abstract This paper presents the results of an experimental study that had the goal of understanding the effects of treatment with polyethylene glycol (PEG)/nanolime mixtures on collapsible soil behaviour. In a previous study, the use of pure PEG offered a good improvement in the stability of collapsible soil, but the stabilisation effect only lasted for a limited time. High-nuclearity magnetic clusters: Magnetic interactions in clusters encapsulated by molecular metal oxides

Abstract The ability of the molecular metal oxides derived from the Keggin anion [PW 12 O 40 ] 3− to accommodate magnetic ions at specific sites, giving rise to polymetallic clusters with increasing spin nuclearities is discussed. Examples of magnetic clusters with three, four and nine metal ions exhibiting ferromagnetic exchange couplings or a coexistence of ferro- and antiferromagnetic couplings are reported.

Abstract Spray-freeze-dried powders were suggested for nasal, epidermal (needle-free injection) or pulmonary application of proteins, peptides or nucleic acids. In spray-freeze-drying processes an aqueous solution is atomized into a refrigerant medium and subsequently dried by sublimation. Droplet-stream generators produce a fast stream of monodisperse droplets, where droplets are subject to collisions and therefore the initial monodispersity is lost and droplets increase in diameter, which reduces their suitability for pulmonary application. Ni alloy nanowires as high efficiency electrode materials for alkaline electrolysers

Abstract The fabrication and characterization of nickel-alloy electrodes for alkaline electrolysers is reported. Three different alloys (Ni–Co, Ni–Zn and Ni–W) at different composition were studied in order to determine the optimum condition. Nanostructured electrodes were obtained by template electrodeposition into a nanoporous membrane, starting from aqueous solution containing the two elements of the alloy at different concentrations.
