Purkinje cell loss and motor coordination defects in profilin1 mutant mice.
2012
Profilin1 is an actin monomer-binding protein, essential for cytoskeletal dynamics. Based on its broad expression in the brain and the localization at excitatory synapses (hippocampal CA3-CA1 synapse, cerebellar parallel fiber (PF)-Purkinje cell (PC) synapse), an important role for profilin1 in brain development and synapse physiology has been postulated. We recently showed normal physiology of hippocampal CA3-CA1 synapses in the absence of profilin1, but impaired glial cell binding and radial migration of cerebellar granule neurons (CGNs). Consequently, brain-specific inactivation of profilin1 by exploiting conditional mutants and Nestin-mediated cre expression resulted in a cerebellar hyp…
Mutual entity authentication for LTE
2011
In this paper we outline the Authentication and Key Agreement protocol (EPS-AKA) found in Long-Term Evolution (LTE) systems. This architecture is the 3GPP version of a 4G access security architecture. The LTE security architecture is a mature evolved architecture, with both strengths and weaknesses. In this paper we propose an amendment to the EPS-AKA protocol to make it a full mutual (online) entity authentication protocol. We also analyze the proposal, highlighting both the improvements and the drawbacks of the new AKA protocol.

On the statistical properties of the capacity of double Hoyt fading channels
2010
The statistical properties of the capacity of narrowband double Hoyt fading channels are studied. Toward this end, analytical expressions for the probability density function (PDF) and cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the instantaneous channel capacity process are derived. Furthermore, for the characterization of the dynamical behavior of the time-varying channel capacity, expressions are provided for the level-crossing rate (LCR) and the average duration of fades (ADF). Since the double Rayleigh fading channel is a special case of the double Hoyt model, it is shown that the derived expressions can be reduced to the corresponding results already known for the capacity of the double…
Mathematical modelling of physical phenomena
1996
The word “physics” is derived from the Greek “fysis” which means nature. Physics investigates fundamental natural phenomena and thus physical knowledge has a very general character. This is also the reason why physics penetrates other areas including electrical engineering.
Graphic Interpretation Eileen Gray and Charlotte Perriand
2015
The article deals with the study of two projects of Eileen Gray, an architect who had turned her perception of reality into formal delicacy and Charlotte Perriand, who was able to promote the emphasis of collective and rational living. The article proposes the “graphic re-interpretation” or redrawing of some unbuilt Eileen Gray and Charlotte Perriand’s projects designed in response to the social problems arising in 1936. Their projects of minimum temporary houses are a manifesto through which they investigates other principles of the Modern Movement with the variety of composition of small spaces in relation to the inside well-being at the human scale. The redrawing practice, shown in this …

Exploiting seeding of random number generators for efficient domain decomposition parallelization of dissipative particle dynamics
2013
Abstract Dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) is a new promising method commonly used in coarse-grained simulations of soft matter and biomolecular systems at constant temperature. The DPD thermostat involves the evaluation of stochastic or random forces between pairs of neighboring particles in every time step. In a parallel computing environment, the transfer of these forces from node to node can be very time consuming. In this paper we describe the implementation of a seeded random number generator with three input seeds at each step which enables the complete generation of the pairwise stochastic forces in parallel DPD simulations with minimal communication between nodes.
