Capturing and Indexing Rehearsals: The Design and Usage of a Digital Archive of Performing Arts

International audience; Preserving the cultural heritage of the performing arts raises difficult and sensitive issues, as each performance is unique by nature and the juxtaposition between the performers and the audience cannot be easily recorded. In this paper, we report on an experimental research project to preserve another aspect of the performing arts—the history of their rehearsals. We have specifically designed non-intrusive video recording and on-site documentation techniques to make this process transparent to the creative crew, and have developed a complete workflow to publish the recorded video data and their corresponding meta-data online as Open Data using state-of-the-art audi…

Un progetto giovanile di G. Damiani Almeyda è stato ricostruito a partire dalla tavola conservata nell'archivio Damiani. Dalla pianta e dal prospetto presenti nella tavola sono state desunte le informazioni necessarie all'analisi geometrica e volumetrica, alla costruzione di un modello tridimensionale e alla realizzazione di viste prospettiche renderizzate.

Il lavoro si pone come obiettivo la ricostruzione congetturale del progetto dell’Eden Teatro Biondo (1912) a Palermo di Ernesto Basile (Palermo 1857–1932) a partire dai disegni originari. L’edifico propone una tipologia che fonde cinematografo (al piano terra) e teatro (al piano superiore). Pensato su un fronte di Piazza Verdi, non sarà realizzato per i costi ritenuti troppo elevati dai committenti. Le scansioni dei disegni originari (conservati presso il Fondo Basile del Dipartimento di Architettura dell’Università di Palermo) hanno consentito la vettorializzazione piana utilizzata per l’analisi e per la modellazione 3D. In an early printed book, the presence of a large iconographic apparatus normally reveals a strong effort both in designing its shape and in the financial coverage needed to make it possible. Such effort can be fully explained by paying attention to the scope and target behind its conception. The two volumes of “Ritratti della Prosapia et heroi Moncadi nella Sicilia”, published in 1657 in Valencia, offer a notable example of the political exposure sought after by a noble family, that of Moncada, through the printing press technique and its power of circulation, combined with the attractiveness of family portraits. For centuries, an image commonly associated with Santiago de Compostela (the shell) has accompanied the city of Palermo as well. Since the classical tradition and medieval literature, and then during the Renaissance and Baroque age, this symbol has been connected with other urban symbols (the rivers, the eagle and trhe Genius of Palermo), thus contributing to its historical identity, although in a rather idealistic form. In the eighteenth century there is a large number of stories, both handwritten and in print, that describe extraordinary and unlucky events of different kinds: monstrosities, eclipses, or storms, floods, earthquakes, eruptions, etc. These stories, with respect to Sicily, take the form of occasional printed news, although sometimes they may be included in serials organized by different criteria (topographic/chronological/subject). During the 1920s, after the promulgation by US government of the Quota Acts, and after the new fascist policies about emigration in Italy (1926), we register a dramatic decrease of the transatlantic migration flows from Italy to the US. Focusing on the case of Sicily, one of the region which had sent more emigrants to the US during the Great Migration, this essay analyses the issue of migratory waves from Southern Italy to the US during the Fascism. In fact, despite of the reshaping of migration policies, some traditional networks between Sicily and America are still working.
