FACTORS INFLUENCING CAREER CHOICE AMONG NURSING STUDENTS

2018

Choosing a career is a complex and multi-factorial decision-making process that is based on several personal, situational and organizational factors. The purpose of this study is a literature review to determine factors influencing career choice among nursing students. The literature review displays that nursing students make their career decisions from a combination of personal interests in health care and their desire to help others. From the beginning of the studies students may have strong career preferences. Training Career Practitioners for the Current Context

2020

Training programs for career practitioners continue to increase in both quantity and quality. For example, international opportunities for those interested in career development facilitator training have increased substantially during the past decade. In this chapter we provide highlights of these developments as they have occurred throughout the world. The chapter details the substantial variability that exists regarding the training career practitioners receive. Finally, we make recommendations regarding minimal training standards and the need for more uniform language within our profession. peerReviewed

Career counselling at Indian universities : Cases from different regions

2019

Career studies indicate that individuals are increasingly responsible for their own careers, which seem to be more diverse than ever. This raises a question for universities regarding how they can develop their career counselling services so that students receive the help and guidance they need to manage their careers. Previous studies show that women have more difficulties advancing in a career than men. To increase women’s career opportunities and empower them to participate in working life, ultimately increasing gender equality in society and at work, women’s career counselling at universities needs special attention. In this study, career counselling at Indian universities in different …

Ikä, identiteetti ja ohjaava koulutus. Ikääntyvät pitkäaikaistyöttömät oppimisyhteiskunnan haasteena

2007

Piia Silvennoinen tutki väitöskirjassaan, millainen merkitys työvoimapoliittisella koulutuksella on ikääntyvien pitkäaikaistyöttömien elämässä. Nykyinen itseohjau…

How Followers Differing in Career Motivation Gain Career Profits from Transformational Leaders: A Longitudinal Moderated Mediation Model

2017

Although, transformational leadership is among the most thoroughly examined leadership theories, knowledge regarding its association with followers' career outcomes is still limited. Furthermore, the underlying mechanisms explaining how transformational leaders affect their employees' career success are yet not well-understood. Based on theoretical assumptions about the processes involved in setting the goal of “making a career,” we propose an indirect effect of transformational leadership on subjective and objective career success via development opportunities that depends on the level of career motivation of employees. We conducted a longitudinal study with two measurement occasions separ…

Practitioners’ Experiences of Social Media in Career Services

2015

A growing number of career practitioners and career centers are reaching out to individuals and community members in new ways by integrating various social media tools, such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, into their professional practices (e.g., Dyson, 2012; Osborn & LoFrisco, 2012). To many, social media are simply online tools to share information and to communicate and socialize with one another. In the broader sense, social media is defined as a process whereby individuals and groups build a common understanding and meaning with contents, communities, and Web 2.0 technology (e.g., Ahlqvist, Back, Heinonen, & Halonen, 2010; Kangas, Toivonen, & Back, 2007).An extensive body of litera…
