Structural changes of glycolic acid (GA) complex with nitrogen induced by selective overtone excitation of the νOH mode were followed in argon matrices using FTIR spectroscopy. For the most stable SSC1 complex present in different trapping sites directly upon deposition site, selective changes in the νOH region were achieved upon near-infrared irradiation. Simultaneously, new conformers of the GA…N2 complex were formed, giving rise to several sets of bands in the νOH and νC=O regions of the spectra. Both position and intensity of new absorptions appeared to be highly sensitive on the wavelength of radiation used, as well as on the annealing of the matrix. Based on theoretical calculations a…

Diagnostics of Helium-Argon Arc Discharge Plasma Based on Spectral Line Shape Measurements

1999

Electron densities and ion (gas) temperatures on the axis of an arc discharge plasma, produced at atmospheric pressure in a gas mixture of 95% helium and 5% argon, are determined at two arc currents. The evaluation of both main plasma parameters is based on line shape measurements, the ion temperature on the Doppler broadening of selected ArII lines, while the electron density on the Stark broadening of the hydrogen Hp line which appear in the spectrum due to hydrogen traces in the applied gases. The significance of reliable plasma diagnostics for determination of atomic structure data is discussed.

Access to Gamma-ray Spectroscopy of Neutron-Rich sdfp Shell Nuclei

2000

γ-rays in neutron-rich sdfp shell nuclei, produced in deep-inelastic processes during collisions of 37Cl and 40Ar ions on 208Pb and of 48Ca ions on 48Ca, have been studied using large Ge multidetector arrays. Candidates for new yrast states in heavy argon and sulfur isotopes have been identified.

<title>Electrochromism in oxyfluoride thin films</title>

1994

Oxyfluoride films based on W and Ti were prepared by reactive sputtering in plasmas containing O2 + CF4. The deposition rate was large, particularly when chemical sputtering was promoted by heating the target. The films could show large charge insertion/extraction, high coloration efficiency, and good cycling durability.© (1994) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Confident methods for the evaluation of the hydrogen content in nanoporous carbon microfibers

2012

Abstract Nanoporous carbon microfibers were grown by chemical vapor deposition in the vapor-liquid solid mode using different fluid hydrocarbons as precursors in different proportions. The as-grown samples were further treated in argon and hydrogen atmospheres at different pressure conditions and annealed at several temperatures in order to deduce the best conditions for the incorporation and re-incorporation of hydrogen into the microfibers through the nanopores. Since there are some discrepancies in the results on the hydrogen content obtained under vacuum conditions, in this work, we have measured the hydrogen content in the microfibers using several analytical methods in ambient conditi…

Study of uniformity of plasmas produced in a wall-stabilized arc

2003

In this contribution the plasma of an arc discharge in a mixture of helium and argon is studied. The gas mixture is introduced uniformly along the arc column between each of the stabilizing plates. From the measured lateral distribution of radiation (HeI, HI, ArI, ArII, NI, FI line intensity and width measurements), after Abel inversion, the radial temperature distributions were obtained at various positions of the arc column. Beside the expected radial temperature gradients, a distinct temperature gradient along the arc column was found.

Temperature at Small Scales: A Lower Limit for a Thermodynamic Description

2011

We analyze the concept of equilibrium temperature in a set of interacting argon atoms, confined in a nanostructure, a zeolite with an intricate distribution of channels through which the atoms may move. The temperature is computed following two procedures: by averaging over the kinetic energy of the particles and over the forces acting on them. It is shown that for external surfaces and for regions which do not fall under the whole pattern of potential energy distribution, smaller than a quarter of a crystal unit cell, both temperatures, kinetic and configurational, show significant differences. The configurational temperature accounts for the different interactions on the particles in the …

High resolution Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and analysis of the ν 6 band of jet-cooled Mo(CO) 6

2000

Abstract Rovibrational FTIR spectra of Mo(CO) 6 have been recorded in supersonic argon expansions at 0.004 cm −1 resolution. Rotational constants have been determined for the ν 6 fundamental band of Mo( 12 CO) 6 and for the parallel band of the symmetric top isotopomer Mo( 13 CO)( 12 CO) 5 . From these results, a precise estimate of the Coriolis parameter for the ν 6 band of the main isotopomer Mo( 12 CO) 6 is derived, necessary for the analysis of the ν 6 spectrum. The observation of an octahedral splitting clearly resolved for the highest J-lines in the R branch prompted the use of a specific treatment based on the tensorial formalism developed by J.P. Champion, M. Loete, G. Pierre (Spher…

Raman spectroscopy and high-overtone driven isomerization of glyoxylic acid in solid argon

2013

High-overtone induced chemistry of glyoxylic acid isolated in a low-temperature argon matrix was investigated using Raman spectroscopy. The Raman spectra of two most stable conformers of glyoxylic acid are presented. Upon excitation in high overtone vibrational bands by 532 nm irradiation of the lowest energy conformer most abundant in neat deposited sample, the isomerization of glyoxylic acid was observed. The process most plausible proceeds via absorption into the fifth vibrational overtone state of the OH group or its combination with the torsional vibrational transition. The assignment of the fundamental vibrational spectra was assisted by quantum chemical harmonic and anharmonic vibrat…
