Superficial defects induced by argon and oxygen bombardments on (110) TiO2 surfaces

Abstract Compositional and chemical changes of titanium dioxide monocrystalline surfaces induced by bombardment with 4 keV argon and oxygen ions have been studied by AES, XPS and AFM. Argon ion bombardment induced strong changes in the composition and chemical state of the surface: loss of oxygen due to preferential sputtering occurred, and, related to this, Ti4+ species were reduced to Ti3+ and Ti2+. During oxygen bombardment, competition between preferential sputtering of oxygen ions of the oxide surface and oxygen implantation was observed. ZnSe single crystals, obtained by the Solid Phase Recrystallization (SPR) method under three different pressure conditions, 10 and 5 atm of Se, and 2 atm of argon, have been investigated by means of photoluminescence (PL) and optical microscopy. Special attention has been paid to the surface state of the samples. Samples recrystallized under 10 atm of Se present the best rate between the PL response for the excitonic zone and the deep level one that shows a clean PL emission without significant peaks and/or bands. Modeling And Measurements Of The Arc Plasma In A Mixture Of Gases

Radial distributions of Ar mass fractions and temperatures in plasmas produced in a wall-stabilized arc have been calculated. Modeling have been performed for many different mixtures of Ar+N2 and three different arc currents. The obtained results show that the radial distributions of Ar mass fractions strongly depend on the chemical composition of the plasma. In plasmas containing large amount of Ar the distributions have local minima at the arc axis (in high temperature plasma regions), whereas in plasmas consisting mainly of nitrogen the distributions reveal maxima on the discharge axis. Those features seem to be connected with the dissociation of the nitrogen.

Study of Inductive Coupled Hydrogen and Argon Plasma Interaction with SiO2 Glass

This work is devoted to the diagnostics of interaction between hydrogen and argon with the surface of SiO2 glass walls. For diagnostics of the interaction, special high-frequency electrodeless light sources were prepared, filled with pure argon of 1 Torr or argon-hydrogen of total pressure of 1 Torr (Ar/H2 mixing ratio is 9:1). Besides the mostly used spherical and cylindrical lamps, dumbbell type lamps have also been investigated. The spectroscopic and AFM measurements showed that in comparison with pure argon plasma, the argon-hydrogen plasma causes non-uniform changes of the SiO2 surface. Rotation of methyl radicals in a solid krypton matrix

Electron spin resonance (ESR) measurements were carried out to study the rotation of methyl radicals (CH(3)) in a solid krypton matrix at 17-31 K temperature range. The radicals were produced by dissociating methane by plasma bursts generated by a focused 193 nm excimer laser radiation during the krypton gas condensation on the substrate. The ESR spectrum exhibits only isotropic features at the temperature range examined, and the intensity ratio between the symmetric (A) and antisymmetric (E) spin state lines exhibits weaker temperature dependence than in a solid argon matrix. Chemisorption of hydrogen on a V5+ cluster

Abstract The binding between V 5 + and hydrogen is studied by collision induced dissociation of the cluster-adsorbate V 5 + H 2 . Vanadium clusters are produced by laser vaporization and injected into an electromagnetic ion trap. After mass separation of V 5 + , the pulsed addition of hydrogen yields V 5 + H 2 . The desorption of hydrogen is studied by acceleration of V 5 + H 2 with variable rf voltages and collisions with argon atoms. From the threshold voltage necessary for dissociation a binding energy of H 2 on V 5 + of 2.4 ± 0.3 eV is estimated. This value is consistent with a dissociative chemisorption of hydrogen.

Cure kinetics of a cobalt catalysed dicyanate ester monomer in air and argon atmospheres from DSC data

A kinetic analysis of the cyclotrimerisation reaction of a dicyanate ester monomer catalysed by cobalt(II) acetylacetonate and nonylphenol in air and argon atmospheres has been carried out by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Dynamic and isothermal DSC scans as well as the glass transition temperature are the experimental data obtained. From isothermal scans a higher cyanate conversion in air than in argon was obtained. The cyanate conversions are satisfactorily described with a second-order kinetic equation in the kinetically controlled region, and by m-order (m<1) equation after vitrification is reached. A new approach to the growth of ZnO by vapour transport

The crystal growth of ZnO by vapour transport is classically made in presence of additional species which enhance the growth process. Usually, additional species have been considered as chemical transport agents that promote a typical CVT (Chemical Vapour Transport) process. Recently, we have proposed a new interpretation of the chemical role of some of these species. This new interpretation considers that, in some cases, the additional species promote a partial consumption of the O2 provided by the ZnO decomposition and, consequently, a Zn excess is generated. Galactic Cosmic-Ray Anisotropy in the Northern hemisphere from the ARGO-YBJ Experiment during 2008-2012

This paper reports on the observation of the sidereal large-scale anisotropy of cosmic rays using data collected by the ARGO-YBJ experiment over 5 years (2008-2012). This analysis extends previous work limited to the period from 2008 January to 2009 December, near the minimum of solar activity between cycles 23 and 24. With the new data sample, the period of solar cycle 24 from near minimum to maximum is investigated. A new method is used to improve the energy reconstruction, allowing us to cover a much wider energy range, from 4 to 520 TeV.
