La argumentaciòn y la demostraciòn en un context multicultural

Reading data from graphs: a study on the role of language.
2015
International audience; The work described in this paper is framed in a larger study focused on written argumentations produced by university students in tasks regarding graphs, conversions between graphs and their analytic properties and relations among different graphs. Using the functional linguistics framework, we analyse difficulties related to an examination task on functions and their derivatives. The use of colloquial and literate registers in mathematics problem solving is the lens through which we analyse and discuss the errors. We draw attention to the difficulties concerning the use of literate registers and how these difficulties influence the errors in the interpretations of t…
Patente de corso y La zona fantasma: La identidad del locutor
2014
This study deals with the main features of locutors in La zona fantasma (Marías) and Patente de corso (Pérez Reverte). After a brief introduction on argumentative discourse and the opinion columns, the identity of the locutor/enunciator is analysed in detail. More precisely, the article will demonstrate how mode, polyphony and heterogeneity of discursive sequences support the persuasive objective pursued by this kind of discourse.

2022
In the field of critical discourse analysis "bad faith" is hardly a concept and yet stands as an intuitive dimension of speech conventions. It spans across rhetorics, ethics, semantics, reasoning and argumentation. This article and the overall volume which it introduces is interested in trying to develop formal criteria to distinguish bad faith from denial, lying, or manipulation. The aim is to provide linguistic evidence of its inner workings in relation to pragmatical and psychological factors. As it appears in eristic contexts, it takes part in the global agonistic approach to interactions, in particular in arguments about politics, in media coverage and epistemological debates. Our clai…

Problem Solving and Argumentative Skills in Multicultural Italian Classrooms.
2016
In the last decades the population in Italian classrooms has become increasing more multicultural. Even if the law guarantees to all students the access to school, the gap between Italian students and migrant ones is becoming more and more evident in the results of national surveys in Italian Language and Mathematics and in the high dropout rates. A preliminary investigation was carried out to highlight the main difficulties faced in mathematics by these students, particularly related to problem solving and argumentation. The research aimed therefore to the development and testing of an educational intervention that, taking into account cultural and linguistic differences, aims at strengthe…
Modalność epistemiczna w ustnych wypowiedziach maturzystów
2016
In this article the author analyses components of the epistemic modality, by means of which a student assesses the accuracy of views presented during the oral matriculation examination in the Polish language. Considering the specificity of spoken utterances during the oral matriculation examination, the epistemic modality can be defined as all kinds of information on an intellectual attitude of the speaker who, on the basis of his/her own knowledge and thinking processes which are taking place in his/her mind al a given moment, makes a “gradable” assessment of a view’s reliability. The analysed texts differ depending on the level of certainty of their authors as far as the communicated cont…
Visualising knowledge from chat debates in argument diagrams
2010
This study investigates whether combining chat discussion and construction of an argument diagram stimulates students to formulate new ideas in practising argumentation. In this study, 16 secondary school students discussed vivisection and gender equality in pairs using both free and structured chat tools. In structured chat, the students selected and completed partial sentences provided by the computer. After the discussion, they jointly constructed either argument diagrams freely based on the previous discussions with an Internet tool or modified a diagram the computer had constructed automatically during the structured chat. The freely constructed diagrams contained more of the students'…
Suomi Euroopan yhteisöön : suvereniteetti argumenttina liittymisen puolesta ja vastaan
2017
Tässä tutkielmassa tutkin suomalaista keskustelua silloiseen Euroopan yhteisöön liittymisestä. Tutkin tätä keskustelua suvereniteetin näkökulmasta kysyen aineistoltani ”miten EY-jäsenyyden nähtiin vaikuttavan Suomen suvereniteettiin”. Sovellan analyysissani suvereniteetin käsitteistöä ja Albert O. Hirschmanin argumentaatioteoriaa taantumuksellisista ja progressiivisista argumentaatiosta. Suvereniteetin käsitettä olen tulkinnut pääasiassa Krasnerin, Prokhovnikin, Pusterla&Piccinin ja Bolin kirjoitusten pohjalta. Aineistonani on eduskunnan lähetekeskusteluja kolmen päivän ajalta tammikuulta 1992, jolloin keskusteltiin valtioneuvoston ainoasta selonteosta Euroopan yhteisön jäsenyyden vaikutuks…
