Il saggio analizza la sezione della “Retorica” di Aristotele dedicata alle passioni (II, 1-11). Il principale elemento di novità che la prospettiva aristotelica è in grado di introdurre nel dibattito contemporaneo sulle emozioni consiste nella natura specificamente retorica dell’indagine in grado di far emergere, di più e meglio che in altre prospettive, il nesso tra corpo, linguaggio e socialità nell’animale umano.

Abstract This chapter approaches the question of biopolitics in ancient political thought looking not at specific political techniques but at notions of the final aim of the political community. It argues that the “happiness” (eudaimonia, beatitudo) that constitutes the greatest human good in the tradition from Aristotle to Thomas Aquinas is not a “biopolitical” ideal, but rather a metabiopolitical one, consisting in a contemplative activity situated above and beyond the biological and the political. This papers deals with linguistic pathologies in ancient Greece, especially in Aristotle. All the author and literary text before Aristotele (Herodotus, Plato and so on) are considered. Ho diviso la lettura dei capitoli 3-9 del libro B della Fisica di Aristotele in due momenti: nei capitoli 3-7 viene data la definizione delle quattro cause e si pone il problema se caso e fortuna sono cause del divenire, nei capitoli 8-9 si risolve tale aporia in senso teleologico e si traggono le conclusioni sulla relazione physis-techne. Does Public Deliberation really Need Normative Constraints? Recovering the Aristotelian Rhetorical Theory

There was recently an attempt to correlate some sectors of the studies on argumentation and the theory of democracy. The relationship between these two areas concerns the fact that in both cases there is a significant interest in normative models of good argumentation. In these models there is no place for rhetoric. Our work has a twofold aim: (1) to show that, starting from the Aristotelian rhetoric, it is possible to develop a more suitable model of argumentation in the public sphere and (2) to doubt the very need to identify normative constraints for this type of argument.

As a linguistic term, diathesis first occurs in the definition of verb given in the treatise on grammar attributed to Dionysius Thrax. There its value intersects those of activeness and affectedness with the result that it designates both semantic and formal properties. In restricting the analysis to the author of this treatise on grammar, whoever he may have been, the paper investigates the origin of diathesis as a linguistic term. The data gathered suggest that the term was originally taken from Aristotle's thought. Of course, how the value of diathesis then developed can also be outlined. The essay links the circular time of festivals with the theoretical activity of philosophy. To this goal, it examines the relation among play, festival, and experience of truth in Gadamer starting with a confrontation between Aristotle’s conception of the relation between play and philosophy and Gadamer’s own conception. The essay then shows how, by focusing anew on the religious origin of holidays, Perone further develops the temporal character of philosophy, which unfolds precisely in philosophy’s unavoidable tension with the eternal.
