2013
This bill endangers the municipal social services system because it deeply modifies the conception thereof (leaning social services towards charity), the distribution of powers (taking competences to the town and city councils) and the public responsibility (encouraging private management and the commercial exploitation thereof). During the last thirty years, the Social Services system had been consolidated throughout Spain, being the proximity to the citizenry its most fundamental value. Such proximity has been achieved thanks to the benefits provided by the town and city councils, which have become the closer public bodies to citizens and their needs with great capacity to understand and …
Lebesgue-type decomposition for sesquilinear forms via differences
2022
Definitions of regularity and singularity are proposed for sesquilinear forms with respect to a non-negative one and a correspondent Lebesgue-type decomposition is proved. In contrast to other Lebesgue-type decompositions established in the literature for sesquilinear forms with generic sign, the underlying idea in this paper is to write symmetric forms as the difference of non-negative sesquilinear forms.
Space-by-Time Modular Decomposition Effectively Describes Whole-Body Muscle Activity During Upright Reaching in Various Directions
2017
The modular control hypothesis suggests that motor commands are built from precoded modules whose specific combined recruitment can allow the performance of virtually any motor task. Despite considerable experimental support, this hypothesis remains tentative as classical findings of reduced dimensionality in muscle activity may also result from other constraints (biomechanical couplings, data averaging or low dimensionality of motor tasks). Here we assessed the effectiveness of modularity in describing muscle activity in a comprehensive experiment comprising 72 distinct point-to-point whole-body movements during which the activity of 30 muscles was recorded. To identify invariant modules o…
Singular (p, q)-equations with superlinear reaction and concave boundary condition
2020
We consider a parametric nonlinear elliptic problem driven by the sum of a p-Laplacian and of a q-Laplacian (a (Formula presented.) -equation) with a singular and (Formula presented.) -superlinear reaction and a Robin boundary condition with (Formula presented.) -sublinear boundary term (Formula presented.). So, the problem has the combined effects of singular, concave and convex terms. We look for positive solutions and prove a bifurcation-type theorem describing the changes in the set of positive solutions as the parameter varies.
Teaching and Learning Systems Thinking: What, Why, When, Where, Who, What For, How?
2017
Currently everybody needs to be educated for lifelong time, so we have to be careful what we put in the education programs, and when, in order to create a systems thinking acquired culture and an ethical holistic behaviour.
Cultural similarity and dissimilarity in intercultural conflicts
2015
This study investigated cultural similarity and dissimilarity in intercultural conflicts, by focusing on how a mediator understands cultural difference in the process of mediation. Intercultural conflict occurs when cultural worldviews of an individual or group are incompatible with the worldviews of another cultural group within the same community. Special interest has been on social inequality, stereotypes and ingroup outgroup tension as causes of intercultural conflicts. Participants for this study were qualified mediators from South Africa. In order to understand their practice environment and mediation landscape in general, community conflict in South Africa was studied. The findings r…
Morphometric analysis of two calanchi areas in Sicily (Italy) by exploiting high resolution Digital Elevation Models
2013
In the Mediterranean areas, specifically in Sicily (Italy), irregular rainfalls, strong seasonal changes, scarce vegetation cover and, frequently, outcropping of clayey deposits favor water erosion phenomena. Badland landscapes are the result of severe erosion processes, characterized by steep slopes, sparse vegetation, high drainage density, rapid erosion rates and a shallow or non existing regolith profile. In this investigation we focused on the calanchi badland type, consisting of heavily dissected terrain with steep, unvegetated slopes and channels that rapidly incise and extend headwards. This research was carried out in two calanchi sites located in Sicily. The geometry of 25 badland…
When feeling and action come together in educational practice. Relations between development education and service learning for a global citizenship
2016
