Das sprachliche Bild „des Juden“ im essayistischen Werk Arnold Zweigs. Eine Analyse mithilfe des DIMEAN-Modells
2021
The concept of linguistic worldview has emerged as a theoretical term with analogous use outside of the discipline of linguistics, especially within the context of interdisciplinary studies, where literary works are approached from a linguistic perspective. This article aims to examine the linguistic image of the Jew in the essayistic work of German-Jewish writer Arnold Zweig (1887-1968), and to consider his role as an actor within a broader discourse. The methodological framework used is based on quantitative corpus analysis methodology and the DIMEAN model, as developed by Warnke and Spitzmüller.
Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser–Renormalization-Group Analysis of Stability in Hamiltonian Flows
1997
We study the stability and breakup of invariant tori in Hamiltonian flows using a combination of Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser (KAM) theory and renormalization-group techniques. We implement the scheme numerically for a family of Hamiltonians quadratic in the actions to analyze the strong coupling regime. We show that the KAM iteration converges up to the critical coupling at which the torus breaks up. Adding a renormalization consisting of a rescaling of phase space and a shift of resonances allows us to determine the critical coupling with higher accuracy. We determine a nontrivial fixed point and its universality properties.
Quality of Life in Individuals Affected by Arnold Chiari Malformation: Comparison and Validation of a Measurement Instrument.
2017
BACKGROUND Introduction. Arnold Chiari Malformation (ACM) type I is a pathology whose symptomatology has repercussions for the quality of life of those affected by it. Quality-of-life measurement instruments can allow the severity of the impact of Chiari type I malformation on patients' lives to be monitored. The Chiari Symptom Profile (CSP) is a valid and reliable instrument designed for this purpose. The aim of the study was to adapt the CSP to Spanish and to explore the reliability and validity of this construct in the context of Spanish-speaking patients with ACM. METHODS The English CSP instrument has a good internal validity and consistency. We used a standardized procedure for the li…
Superconvergent Perturbation Theory, KAM Theorem (Introduction)
2001
Here we are dealing with an especially fast converging perturbation series, which is of particular importance for the proof of the KAM theorem (cf. below).
Exophthalmos and basilar impression. A contribution to differential diagnosis of endocrine orbitopathy.
1988
We report on a male patient with exophthalmos of unclear etiology, basilar impression, syringohydromyelia and type II Arnold-Chiari malformation. Two diseases involving the orbital region were to be considered in differential diagnostic terms: endocrine orbitopathy and osseous orbit dysplasia. The typical physical appearance associated with basilar impression as well as suppurative keratitis in Lagophthalmos was striking. Tetraspasticity with pareses, bulbar symptoms, proximally pronounced muscular atrophy as well as a left hemihypesthesia was shown neurologically. Although the orbit CT was normal, sonography revealed thickened ocular muscles. There was euthyroidism in diffuse goiter with n…
Brainstem evoked potentials and magnetic resonance imaging abnormalities in differential diagnosis of intracranial hypotension.
2019
Summary Objective To compare brainstem acoustic evoked potentials (BAEP) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in the differential diagnosis of intracranial hypotension (IH), Chiari malformation (CM) and sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL). Methods BAEP were recorded in 18 IH, 18 CM, 20 SNHL patients and 52 controls. MRI were acquired in all IH and CM patients. Results Abnormal BAEP were observed in 94% of IH patients, in 33% of CM and 70% of SNHL patients. After recovery from IH, BAEP abnormalities disappeared. Internal auditory canal (IAC) MRI abnormalities were described in 88% of IH patients. MRI signs of IH were observed in 33–78% in IH patients, but the most frequent MRI sign was 8th ner…
Floquet spectrum for two-level systems in quasiperiodic time-dependent fields
1992
We study the time evolution ofN-level quantum systems under quasiperiodic time-dependent perturbations. The problem is formulated in terms of the spectral properties of a quasienergy operator defined in an enlarged Hilbert space, or equivalently of a generalized Floquet operator. We discuss criteria for the appearance of pure point as well as continuous spectrum, corresponding respectively to stable quasiperiodic dynamics and to unstable chaotic behavior. We discuss two types of mechanisms that lead to instability. The first one is due to near resonances, while the second one is of topological nature and can be present for arbitrary ratios between the frequencies of the perturbation. We tre…
Minimally Invasive Surgery for Decompression in Chiari I Malformation
2019
Chiari malformations (CMs) includes different pathologies sharing common anatomic deformities of the brainstem and cerebellum. CM type I was originally introduced by Hans Chiari and described as an “elongation of the tonsils and the medial parts of the inferior lobes of the cerebellum into cone-shaped projections which accompany the medulla oblongata into the spinal canal.” The prevalence of CM has been estimated to be between 0.1% and 0.5%, but it is possible that higher rates will be identified since the increasing the use of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in common clinical practice. Clinical studies have shown an equal prevalence in both sexes without particular ethnic or geographic d…
The present article analyzes the emblem «De Spanjaart» [«The Spaniard»] from the book Stichtelyk Zinnebeelden [Edifying Emblems] by Arnold Houbrakenand Gezine Brit (Amsterdam, 1723) in the light of the stereotypes of the image of Spaniards prevalent in Holland at that time and in the context of the discipline ofImagology (Imagestudies).
The KAM Theorem
2016
This theorem guarantees that, under certain assumptions, in the case of a perturbation \(\varepsilon H_{1}(\boldsymbol{J},\boldsymbol{\theta })\) with small enough ɛ, the iterated series for the generator W(θ i 0, J i ) converges (according to Newton’s procedure) and thus the invariant tori are not destroyed. The KAM theorem is valid for systems with two and more degrees of freedom. However, in the following, we shall deal exclusively with the case of two degrees of freedom.
