Vibrio vulnificus is a zoonotic pathogen that lives in temperate, tropical and subtropical aquatic ecosystems whose geographical distribution is expanding due to global warming. The species is genetically variable and only the strains that belong to the zoonotic clonal-complex can cause vibriosis in both humans and fish (being its main host the eel). Complex chromosomal rearrangements (CCRs) are structural aberrations involving more than two chromosomes with at least three breakpoints. CCRs can be divided into familial and de novo. Balanced CCR are extremely rare in humans and are at high risk of producing unbalanced gametes. A MEMS array-type Mirau interferometer for swept-source OCT imaging with applications in dermatology

In the frame the European project VIAMOS (www.viamos.eu) we developed a microsystem based on Mirau interferometry and applied for optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging of living tissues. The objective is to benefit from advanced MOEMS technologies, enabling a new generation of miniature and low-cost instruments using the concept of the swept-source OCT (SS-OCT) microsystem based on spectrally tuned Mirau interferometry, into which a doublet of microlens matrices (4×4) and a wafer of movable reference mirrors are included, building the active Mirau interferometer.

The spatial characteristics of the sound field inside a room can be meaningfully described by means of microphone array processing techniques. In this context, the set of impulse responses sampled by a microphone array can be seen as an image made of acoustic plane-wave footprints. This contribution presents a joint linear minimum mean square error (LMMSE) equalizer for full-rate space-time transmit diversity multi-code schemes based on W-CDMA, featuring two and four transmit antennas. Specifically, high-rate, high load systems are targeted, in order to analyze the high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) of 3GPP Release 6. We derive an equivalent transmission scheme to equalize the received sufficient statistic in a single stage. To reduce the effects of multipath and multiuser interference, and to provide spatial and frequency diversity at the receiver, an LMMSE equalizer is employed. In this paper a novel embedded fingerprints authentication system based on core and delta singularity points detection is proposed. Typical fingerprint recognition systems use core and delta singularity points for classification tasks. On the other hand, the available optical and photoelectric sensors give high quality fingerprint images with well defined core and delta points, if they are present. A statistical calibration model for Affymetrix probe level data

Gene expression microarrays allow a researcher to measure the simultaneous response of thousands of genes to external conditions. Affymetrix GeneChip{ $Ⓡ$} expression array technology has become a standard tool in medical research. Anyway, a preprocessing step is usually necessary in order to obtain a gene expression measure. Aim of this paper is to propose a calibration method to estimate the nominal concentration based on a nonlinear mixed model. This method is an enhancement of a method proposed in Mineo et al. (2006). The relationship between raw intensities and concentration is obtained by using the Langmuir isotherm theory.
