A rare case of ruptured aneurysm of the paramedian artery of Percheron.

2018

Introduction The artery of Percheron is a rare anatomic variant supplying bilateral medial thalamic nuclei and a variable portion of the rostral part of midbrain. Case report A 48-year-old female with massive subarachnoid hemorrhage due to a ruptured aneurysm of the paramedian artery of Percheron presented to the emergency room. Because of significant risk of recurrent intracranial hemorrhage, it was decided to proceed with endovascular embolization of the aneurysm. The patient was ultimately sent to a rehabilitation center and her presenting neurologic deficits showed significant improvements in the weeks following endovascular embolization treatment. Discussion The paramedian artery of Pe…

0033 : Can cardiac troponin I measurement help to predict recent coronary occlusion in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors?

2015

BackgroundRecent guidelines recommend the immediate performance of a coronary angiography when an acute myocardial infarction is suspected as a cause of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. However, prehospital factors such as post resuscitation electrocardiogram pattern or clinical features are poorly sensitive in this setting. We searched to evaluate if a measurement of cardiac troponin I can help to detect a recent coronary lesion in out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.MethodsBetween January 2012 and Juin 2013, 54 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest survivors have been consecutively studied. An immediate coronary angiography has been systematically performed. Blood cardiac troponin I levels at admissio…

The anatomic basis of the transversus and rectus abdominis musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) composite flap

1999

The aim of this study was to provide an anatomic basis for the transversus and rectus abdominis musculoperitoneal (TRAMP) flap, recently successfully introduced for vulvovaginal reconstruction. In 25 cadavers the width and length of the portions of rectus and transversus abdominis muscles suitable for the TRAMP flap as well as the length and diameter of the inferior epigastric artery were assessed. The mean length of the rectus abdominis muscle was 32.42±0.48 cm and its width 6.15±0.12 cm. The suitable part of the transversus abdominis muscle measured 19.08±0.3 cm mean length with a mean width of 18.62±0.19 cm. No significant left-right differences were observed. The resulting area of the r…

Relaxation and cGMP formation in response to sildenafil and sodium nitroprusside in saphenous veins from normotensive and hypertensive patients1

2002

Abstract Background This study was designed to measure cyclic guanosine 3′5′ monophosphate (cGMP) formation and relaxation response to sildenafil given either alone or in combination with sodium nitroprusside in saphenous veins obtained from normotensive and hypertensive patients. Methods Saphenous vein rings were obtained from 13 hypertensive and nine normotensive patients undergoing coronary artery bypass surgery. The vein rings were suspended in organ bath chambers for isometric recording of tension. The effect of sildenafil on sodium nitroprusside-induced cGMP formation was also assessed. Results Sildenafil (10 nmol/L to 100 μmol/L) and sodium nitroprusside (0.01 to 100 nmol/L) caused c…

Síndrome de Susac de presentación ocular atípica

2007

Right posterior diaphragmatic hernia (Bochdalek) with liver involvement and alteration of hepatic outflow in adult: a case report

2016

Introduction Posterior right diaphragmatic hernia is rare in newborn patients but when present, is accompanied by high mortality. Pulmonary hypoplasia seems to be the main cause of death but the presence of liver involvement remains one of the reasons for poor prognosis even when intrauterine surgery is performed. Case Description In this article, we will present a rare case that was diagnosed by chance in a 65-year old adult presenting with an adenocarcinoma of the rectosigmoid junction and a right Bochdalek hernia with liver herniation and modification of the hepatic vein outflow with a natural right to left shunt. Discussion Diaphragmatic repair was performed on the patient with a mash a…

0437: SYNTAX score is associated with in-hospital mortality as assessed by GRACE risk score in patients with acute myocardial infarction

2014

BackgroundCurrent guidelines for the management of patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) recommend the GRACE score for risk stratification with assessment of admission variables. The syntax score (SS) is a comprehensive angiographic scoring system that is derived entirely from the coronary anatomy and lesion characteristics. We investigated the relationship between severity of coronary artery disease (CAD) assessed with SYNTAX Score (SS) and GRACE Score (GS) in patients with AMI.Patients and MethodsFrom the obseRvatoire des Infarctus de Côte d’Or (RICO) survey, 614 consecutive patients hospitalized for an AMI from 1st march 2011 to 30 august 2012 and who underwent coronary angiogr…

Endothelial modulation of 5-hydroxytryptamine-induced contraction in goat cerebral arteries.

1993

Abstract 1. 1. In isolated goat middle cerebral artery segments, 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT, 10 −8 −3 × 10 −5 M) caused concentration-dependent contractions, with EC 50 = 2.1 (1.9−2.5) × 10 −7 M and E max = 60 ± 2% of 50 mM KCl-induced contraction. 2. 2. Mechanical removal of endothelium significantly increased the E max (91 ± 8%) and did not change the EC 50 value of 5-HT-elicited contractions. 3. 3. Incubation of unrubbed arteries with the irreversible inhibitor of EDRF, gossypol (10 −5 M), significantly increased the contractile response to 5-HT ( E max = 77 ± 4%). 4. 4. Incubation of unrubbed arteries with the competitive inhibitor of the NO synthesis, N G -nitro - l -arginine (L-NOARG) …

Electrocardiography for Assessment of Hypertensive Heart Disease: A New Role for an Old Tool

2016

Left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy (LVH), detected either by electrocardiography (ECG) or echocardiography (ECHO), has long been recognized as a powerful predictor of serious cardiovascular (CV) sequelae. A very large and highly consistent body of evidence indicates that LVH is not only an adaptation to increased hemodynamic load in hypertension, but is also independently associated with an enhanced risk for myocardial infarction, cardiac sudden death, congestive heart failure, and stroke in the general population, as well as in patients with systemic hypertension, coronary heart disease, chronic kidney disease, and atrial fibrillation. Intriguingly, the cumulative incidence of cardiovascula…
