The Effects of Taxation on Migration: Some Evidence for the ASEAN and APEC Economies

This paper investigates the effects of taxation on migration. It develops a stylized, two-country model to examine the impact of taxes on labor mobility. The theoretical predictions that taxes affect migration decisions and that educated workers are more responsive to taxation are supported by some empirical evidence for the economies of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. The empirical application also shows that average tax rates have a larger impact on migration choices than marginal rates. Pricing the Option to Surrender in Incomplete Markets

New international accounting standards require insurers to reflect the value of embedded options and guarantees in their products. Pricing techniques based on the Black and Scholes paradigm are often used; however, the hypotheses underneath this model are rarely met. We propose a framework that encompasses the most known sources of incompleteness. We show that the surrender option, joined with a wide range of claims embedded in insurance contracts, can be priced through our tool, and deliver hedging portfolios to mitigate the risk arising from their positions. We provide extensive empirical analysis to highlight the effect of incompleteness on the fair value of the option.

Abstract In this paper, we test for contagion within the East Asian region, contagion being defined as a significant increase in the degree of comovement between stock returns in different countries. Preliminary Results on the Helminthofauna of the Eurasian Lynx (Lynx Lynx) in Latvia

In the article, preliminary data on the helminthofauna of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in Latvia are presented. Material for the research on the helminthofauna was collected and investigated from 1999 to 2002. A total of 42 individuals was examined for helminths. Helminth species occurring most frequently in the Eurasian lynx and helminths dangerous to people were established. Six helminth species belonging to the following taxonomic groups were found: one species (Taenia pisiformis) of Cestoda and five species (Toxocara mystax, Thominx aerophilus, Trichinella sp., Capillaria felis-cati, and Nematoda sp.) of Nematoda.

Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää, minkälaisia käsityksiä tuki- ja liikuntaelinsairauksien suoravastaanottokoulutusta aloittavilla, kokeneilla fysioterapeuteilla (n=28) oli ammatillisesta osaamisesta. Fysioterapeuttien osaamisesta on tehty runsaasti tutkimuksia, sen sijaan osaamiskäsityksiä ei ole tutkittu. Fysioterapeuttien tehtäväkuva on muuttumassa ja osaamisvaatimukset laajenevat. Kapean erikoisosaamisen sijasta tulevaisuudessa tarvitaan laajempaa näkemystä toimintakykyisyyden tukemisen keinoista.
