Abstract Past research has demonstrated that conspiracy belief is linked to a low level of self-reported general trust. In four experimental online studies (total N = 1105) we examined whether this relationship translated into actual behavior. Specifically, since the decision to trust relies on the ability to detect potential social threat, we tested whether conspiracy believers are better at detecting actual threat, worse at detecting the absence of threat, or simply trust less, irrespective of any social cue. NMR relaxation and solvation equilibrium in the ternary system CCl4-polymethylmethacrylate-benzene

In the ternary system CCl4-PMMA-benzene, benzene is preferentially adsorbed in the solvation shell of the polymer. One solvation equilibrium constant allows a satisfactory description of the preferential solvation for a large range of solvent compositions. The nuclear magnetic relaxation time T1 of benzene protons was measured for different values of the polymer concentration. The measurements are compared with analogous measurements in the system C6D6-PMMA-C6H6 where no preferential solvation is to be expected. For the system CCl4-PMMA-benzene the resulting dimensionless solvation equilibrium constant is K = c32c10/c12c30 = 2.5 ± 0.5 where c10 is the CCl4 concentration in the “free” solven…

Using short and long contexts, the present study investigated musical priming effects that are based on chord repetition and harmonic relatedness. A musical target (a chord) was preceded by either an identical prime or a different but harmonically related prime. In contrast to words, pictures, and environmental sounds, chord processing was not facilitated by repetition. Experiments 1 and 2 using single-chord primes showed either no significant difference between chord repetition and harmonic relatedness or facilitated processing for harmonically related targets. Genome-wide association analysis identifies six new loci associated with forced vital capacity

Forced vital capacity (FVC), a spirometric measure of pulmonary function, reflects lung volume and is used to diagnose and monitor lung diseases. We performed genome-wide association study meta-analysis of FVC in 52,253 individuals from 26 studies and followed up the top associations in 32,917 additional individuals of European ancestry. We found six new regions associated at genome-wide significance (P <5 x 10(-8)) with FVC in or near EFEMP1, BMP6, MIR129-2-HSD17B12, PRDM11, WWOX and KCNJ2.
